2020 TRD Pro Snorkel

Can anyone tell me why the Snorkel that comes as an option on the 2020 TRD Pro wouldn’t fit on a 2018? Both are 3rd gen tacos, so I’m assuming the exterior lines are all the same.

I tried to purchase from McGeorge, and I got a response after I purchased saying that Toyota is only releasing the part for current 2020 TRD Pro Snorkel owners. Have to provide VIN and photo proof of damaged part that’s being replaced.

I think this is just Toyota’s way of forcing you to buy the new vehicle model if you like the specs that much.
I’m not a fan of the aftermarket snorkels...

 

Welcome to the forum. Some dealership parts guys will disregard the corporate rules about the availability of certain parts, just check around.

 

Why would you even consider this useless ugliness? People are paying money to get rid of it.

 

Toyota doesnt want to be responsible for people damaging their fenders by installing it incorrectly.

Think long and hard before you install one on a new truck, it can severely hamper the re-sale. It also adds to blind spot on the right pillar.

I would never even consider it on a new truck unless you bought a pro that way.

 

What is the purpose of that thing anyway?

 

Apparently dust can’t get that high in the air so it will breathe better.

It’s worthless for preventing water intrusion.

To allow the motor to breath in cleaner air on dusty roads, the Toyota dorkel is not for fording.

 

Makes sense, I knew you couldn’t get deep enough in water to need it without flooding inside

I've always wondered how bad the wind noise is with one of these installed.

 

Yeah, I have been thinking a lot about it. I’m keeping this truck until it runs to the ground. My line of work requires a lot of driving. I’ve put 60K on the truck since I bought it brand new two years ago. So I’m thinking to get anything out of it if/when I sell it years down the road, I’ll get some hits from some guys who want something to take off roading.

Plus I believe the cleaner air it brings in will keep the engine running longer.
I never believed nor wanted it for driving in deep water.

 

Sounds like you're trying really hard to justify buying this. If you really don't care and are planning to drive the truck into the "ground" as you say why not just buy the aftermarket one? A lot of driving and the prospect of wind noise and blind spot = a huge nope from me

I did find one dealer who could get it for me, but they were charging over $100 more for the kit.
I’m not welcome back to another dealership after they didn’t put the oil plug back in after an oil change and potentially ruined my engine and wouldn’t make it right. Not that I would give them anymore business anyways.

But consensus is that it should fit a 2018, yes?
Not asking for opinions on individual cosmetic preferences.

@tacoVA23 Scour the interwebs for a 2018 Taco Pro, grab the VIN, and contact McGeorge about fitment.

 

I don't see why it wouldn't fit. I'd make sure it comes with some sort of cutting guide or template, these things aren't dealer installed are they?

 

If you want longer engine life, run a stock paper filter in a stock air box.

Buying a Pro intake kit to get longer engine life is just well insane
