    3.5 leveling Kit
    Hello everyone,

I'd like to introduce myself to everyone. I thought I'd join this forum as it seems many of you are quite knowledgeable regarding Tacoma's. I just recently added a Performex 3.5 front and 1.5 rear leveling kit on a TRD Sport 4x4. My dilemma is as I started driving away from the shop I noticed slight hum that I don't recall hearing before the installation of the kit.

It's not loud, just a slight hum almost as if I had worn out mud tires. The truck has stock tires and rims. There is no vibration and no grinding. What can it be? Did the kit cause the sound, damage?

Use the search bar at the top right and spend time browsing the results. Or take it back to the shop and go over it with them.

3.5 is a lot of lift to be able to get a good alignment w/o new UCAs. 2.5 is the typical max on OE bits.

And enter 'needle bearing' in the search engine. High probability.

Well, I drove the pickup for a few more miles and I noticed the hum to start at around 34-44 then stop.

I was able to engage the 4x4 and the 4 low as well. What do you guys think. Hopefully I didn't make a mistake and add a leveling kit that was to much for the suspension.

BTW, this group is pretty awesome with all the knowledge .

One more thing, before the wheel alignment was done they checked it and just about everything was off. After the alignment, everything but the caster was in green. The shop told me that when a leveling kit is installed, that the caster was not important to it. That doesn't sound right. Will this contribute to my sound (humming)?

    You are correct.

Never ever darken the door of that bozo shop again.

In reality, caster is the 1st thing to set right, then camber, then toe.

Doubtful to be related to the noise though. And rereading post 7 might be helpful.

I'll be sure to bring that up tomorrow when I go back to see if they can figure out the hum which it appears is coming from the back and not the front like I initially suspected.

3.5 seems high and a first, are you sure it wasnt a 3 and 1? spacers? regardless I would consider bumping that down, thats alot of stress on your drivetrain components, and welcome.

After many days of trying to figure out what was causing the whistling or humming coming from my truck, I think I got it.

Through this site, I found that the lower control arms could be the issue especially with the windy days we have been having in the Valley. After covering, the suggested drain holes, Boom..it worked. Picked up the TSB hole plugs yesterday at the dealership and I couldn't be happier. Almost got rid of her cause of it.

Now bring on the tires, rims and leveling kit.
