My family has been retiring to Haines City, Fl. since my great grandmother in the 1930's. My mother had a stroke 5 years ago and moved up to North Carolina to be with my youngest sister. Don't think any of my sisters or I will be going there to retire so the chain will be broken with us. I'm leaning strongly toward Az. for a few months of the year. But Florida has a lot going for it with seafood and green scenery. But so many blue hairs this time of year, and people in general. Damn people everywhere! Plus I'd have to be up toward Jax for medical and that is the wrong direction for winter.

    Morning Chief!

I have the opportunity to hire another Chief who just retired. He hates that I keep calling him Chief. I informed that "too bad - you lost the rights to your first name when you took the stripe and carried the jeep."

He asked me if it would be an issue having a retired E-9 working for me. I asked him if he had an issue working for a retired E-7. No issues!

Waiting to see if we our offer to him will allow steal him away from CapGemini.

What the hell is this jeep shit?! :p I am a retired Chief E-7. Chief Petty Officer, the Navy is unique of all the branches at the responsibility allowed Chief and above in the enlisted ranks. Which is why Congress has to approve the selection to Chief.

Have a retired Navy E-8 Sr. Chief that works for me, although I elected to go technical specialist because I had enough baby sitting and didn't want to go management in civland. We get along great and work together directly all day. Every once in awhile I will call him Senior just to put a smile on his face.

About 10 years ago hired a retired Master Chief E-9 that also has a PhD to be a SysAdmin before I left the team. He is now a Unit Head running the teams interference between IT and the denial of service group (OIS) and ran into him at the grocery store last weekend and we talked for more than half an hour. I expect that he will be a section head soon.

Good luck on your poaching job, hope you get him

Air Force E-9, Chief Master Sergeant. For zoomies it's a permanent name change. A newly promoted CMSgt is hazed by having to carry around a toy jeep and protect it from shenanigans. They're called a "Jeep Chief." Shenanigans can get pretty creative. We managed to steal our chief's jeep and ransom it back to him for beer and brats.

THOSE are the things I miss about military life.

The "we have DVs coming so everyone come mop the parking lot" shit I do not.

I always wondered how tired Generals must get of smelling pine oil/simple green and fresh paint all the time.

In aerial port warehouses the cargo "bays" are delineated by yellow paint lines on the floor...I'm always telling them we should at least run a forklift across the fresh paint to leave some tire marks...it ought to at least look like we actually do some kind of work. o_O

When you make selection to Chief in the Navy you become a Slug and go through an initiation that is long and secret. Well used to now it is a kinder and gentler world. Hell I heard they can't even use live animals anymore and the physical part is next to nothing.

Did my twilight tour on recruiting duty in Asheville NC and used to do the annual Chiefs initiation at Pope\Bragg inside the Delta Force compound. There were always a few Navy SEALS that made Chief there each year assigned to Delta Force and it was a good secure place to do it. A few Army and AF E-7 would watch us and the usual comments were along the lines of you all are a bunch of sick bastards. But there is a method to the madness. Or was. Did I mention that it is a kinder gentler world now?

Today feels like it's dragging on with no end. But on a positive note I've successfully renewed my security clearance which is good for 10 years so, Good Lord willing that's the last time for that.

    Morning !!!!! :hattip:

Hearing about all this Military Rank talk between @CaptAmerica @MQQSE @Cold Iron has me remembering the fun times when I got promoted to E4 Corporal in the Marines

The hazing rituals we did once obtained E4 like pinning your Blood Stripes . This was done by other E4's in your unit to a newly promoted Corporal

No one has a clue on how cruel and vile a human can be unless you see it for yourself.
It makes you wonder why humans even live sometimes..
