Any good performance chips for our 2.7l Tac?

Do these actually work? No question that I'd like a few more ponies and improve gas mileage (getting AFE filter & removing charcoal filter)...but these are probably mutually exclusive...no free lunch.

Looked into trading up to a 6sp manual V6, almost identical truck trim/mileage/condition. Used car place talked about $6k difference. Told them they were idiots and would contact thme in a month to see if truck had sold.

 

The best option would be a supercharger and a tune.

 

I don't know your situation, Manual or Auto. & how fast you normally dr., but upping HP on 2.7 seems difficult without spending a bunch of $$$. I ran a 2.7 W/5spd. for yrs with no complaints. Traded for a 2.7 W/auto. & very disappointed. I've learned my 2.7 has very little power below 2000 rpm., above 2000 it does much better. At 55 to 60 mph. I'm running around 1850 rpm., in "D", too low, no power at these speeds. I've learned, with my little 4 spd auto., I run in 3rd & keep the rpm's up to appx. 2500, a little high but better than running in a strain all the time like it does in "D". At hwy. spd., 70 or 75 mph. I can shift up to "D" & the rpm's are up to appx. 2200 & my Taco holds it pretty well. Just say'n try keeping "above 2000 rpm." & see if you aren't waaaay more comfortable than you are below 2000. Just my opinion.

My truck was noticably quicker when I didn't have a topper or a steel bumper. If you can do that plus lose the spare tire it may help. Lighter wheels = less unsprung weight. Remember every 100lbs = 10hp...

People claim LCE header helps a lot, I wouldn't know.

 

I don't think you can add ponies and fuel efficiency at the same time. Lol. I'd like to assume Toyota has already tuned our trucks to have the best power to mileage ratio.

 

100 lbs reduction = 10 hp increase? WHAAAAAT?

 

rule of thumb for drag racing..or around .1 sec in a 1/4 mile. obviously not an exact science. But yes, less weight will make a faster vehicle. Especailly unsprung weight.

 

Does LCE have a turbo kit for the 2.7?

I put almost everything LCE sold short of a turbo on my old 22RE. K&N intake, big bore throttle body, EFI cam, LCE Header, "dual roller" timing chain conversion kit, etc. I might have been up to 130 hp...lol

If my truck hadn't been killed by a semi, was seriously thinking about upgrading the head and adding a LCE "low boost" turbo kit.
