This has been an issue for me since 200 miles or so.

My brake pedal will buzz/high freq pulsate when depressed at lower speeds. It's intermittent.

I *can* reproduce it by sitting in park and pumping the brakes. Eventually it will bzzzzt (usually on the 3-4th press).

I was told it's a "characteristic of the vehicle" they used an electric whatsit and its perfectly normal.

It's driving me fucking crazy and over the last week or so it's gotten much worse--doing it more frequently.

Does everyone have this "characteristic" problem?

It really is normal. It's the brake pressure accumulation pump doing its thing. Mine does it too and so does my 4Runner.

Yes, its normal... mine does it. Toyota uses the brake component on a few models.

Exactly. The off roads and 4 Runners with electric boosters will do it.

I'm not gonna lie, if this is something that's not fixable or something that can be recalibrated...

This could be the straw that puts me over the edge. Is there any reason it's getting *worse* ?

Any aftermarket solutions? No car or truck I have ever driven has done anything close to this. Not.a.single.one.

I hate to break it to you but it really is normal. with the Tacoma. I don't know why it does it, but thankfully it doesn't bother me, I seem to have gotten used to it. You can reproduce it easily by stepping on the brake, releasing, and then stepping on again at a stop. May take 1-2 times but it will buzz. My break pedal also squeaks the first half inch of travel but people say that's normal too. Surprisingly that doesn't drive me nuts, but sometimes passengers keep asking me what the hell that is.

Edit: I see you said you know how to reproduce it, whoops.

I'm easily bothered by a lot of things, but I can't see being bothered by that. It's serving a purpose and only happens every now and then. It's a little pump pressurizing a container so that the truck can apply brake pressure to individual wheels that lose traction, help you with emergency braking, etc. When the pressure in that vessel decreases to a certain threshold, the pump kicks on for a few seconds.

If it really bothers you, then your only option is to sell the truck because it's an OEM part doing what it's intended to do and yes, it likely will get louder with time. Like I said, my 2004 4Runner does it too and it's much louder.

It's almost every other press of the pedal at low speeds.

The shit you fanboys are willing to put up with as "normal OEM part doing its job" is mind boggling.

My questions remain: why would it be getting worse and is there something I can do to fix it.

I'd imagine that wouldn't help. If it's filling a reservoir then having a bucket of brake fluid wouldnt help if the reservoir keeps draining too quickly.

Could someone put a larger reservoir in? That would reduce the pedal buzzing frequency.

My '15 was doing this quite a bit the first 15k miles and was driving me nuts. I greased all my ujoints around 15k miles and it has helped quite a bit with the vibration/pulsing while braking. I don't know if it is just more broken in from the 15k miles, but I did notice it being MUCH smoother right after I greased everything.

I think he's talking about the actual brake pedal buzzing like a cell phone. Happens if you let off the brake and then push on it again, it buzzes your foot for a second or two.

If it bothers you and you don't want the functionality that it provides, why did you buy the only version of the Tacoma that comes with that option? The pump had to have cycled multiple times during your test drive but you bought it anyway instead of moving to another trim level that doesn't come with that option.

If you still think that it's abnormal after reading all of these people telling you otherwise, take it to the dealership and have them check it out. While you're there you can drive another OR model and verify for yourself that it's normal, then hop in a Sport and see what it's like without the brake booster.

If it's getting worse this soon there may be something wrong with it and the dealership could verify that. My guess is that you're just tuned into it more now that you know it's happening and it bothers you.

From what I've researched they all have the same pump. If you have a spec sheet that says otherwise that would be great to have handy for the service manager.

So today I pulled into my spot at work and checked out how often it buzzes. It was literally every other press (with one exception that took another press).

Can you guys help me out and tell me how often it happens for you?

I know it's gotten worse, but I would like to figure out what "normal" is.
