2020 TRD Pro AT, 18 City, 22mpg Hwy? Not Even Close...

I averaged about 21.5 the first 6-7 months with my '19 TRD OR DCLB (Southern WI) and lost about 10-15% MPG beginning in December as expected. You can unlock 20-22 mpg in mixed driving in the warmer months if you drive conservatively.

 

Cold cold temps in the midwest is the problem. Here's data on my SR5 (with the air dam) - In the summer months I'm always over 20 mpg, usually 22+. In the winter with the freezing temps combined with heavier steel wheels, snow tires, and winter blend gas it's 17-20 mpg.

One other point is speed... Anything over 65-70 mph and the mileage tanks drastically with these trucks.

Here's my monthly averages, evens out those 26+ mpg road trip fill ups..

 

Dude. How many miles on it? How did you calculate your mileage? Is your figures for one tank or 50? Bring the numbers.

Nope. Winter gas versus summer gas. Different blend. And yes, every station in the whole US switches to it in October and goes until March. Since you monitor so closely you should have seen this trend in your FJ.

 

Also not sure if it's been mentioned yet but also if you let your truck warm up before you drive it or idol a lot, like in drive throughs, even 5 minutes will tank your mpgs

 

19/24 is for 2 wheel drive...

 

I average 30 mpg god it's awful so annoying

 

2018 stock sr5 4x4 4door with the stock 245/75r16 and wind damn was easy 24 highway and 18 city. Once CBI front /rear bumpers went on, icons and 265 E mud tires went on it went down to 18 highway and 16 city.

 

He's not asking for Prius like mpg...if you had read the post he was wondering why he is getting less than the rating posted and on his fg cruiser, which in my opinion is a fair gripe.

Granted we don't know the whole story and how many miles are on his truck, etc all the variables that come into play but still.

Some people need the utility of the truck, but would like decent mpg as well for some people who have a long commute.

The whole point of these newer vehicles is implementing newer technology and coming out with more efficiency.

If that ends up not happening then why come out with this new engine/trans combo and just keep the 4runners powertrain.

I'm not saying the newer Tacoma isn't more efficient than last generation just figured I would put in my .02.

 

My tank average ran 17.7mpg. Tracked it with Fuelly for 10k miles.

 

My 16 was getting 15-17mpg when I bought it, once I hit 5k I shot up, started averaging 20-22mpg, put on some new tires at 40k
and now at 70k I'm always around 19mpg
If you don't have many miles on it yet, it might still go up^

 

My 3rd Gen definitely does better than my old 2nd Gen's, actually sometimes even does better than my old 1st Gen too.

 

I got 23 in New Hampshire, and average 16 in Kansas.

 

Just adding to the comments... I'm finishing up my first tank of gas (odometer has just over 300 miles on it) and currently averaging around 17 mpg per the instrument panel. I'll verify this number when I fill up later this week. This is on a mix of city, hwy, and country roads. I'm expecting (hoping) gas mileage improves as the V6 gets broken in and the weather warms up...

 

I got 10mpg going 80mph through Kansas. Strong winds out there and a subtle but continuous climb in elevation to Denver

 

I probably average 13-14 in the city, much like others have said is due to stop and go and for me, particularly short trips. Even with Duratracs and my bed rack slightly higher than my roof line I can get 21-22 at highway speeds which I've been pretty happy about all things considered. My guess is fuel blend and maybe driving habits, I have friends who think they drive like conservatively but they practically race to red lights.

 

Its going to be your driving habits, tire pressure, and weather. I've owned a 2018 and now a 2020. They both regularly hit 21+ mpgs in stock form. I'm in the Nashville area so its pretty hilly.

My current 2020 double cab OR was averaging 21 mpgs per tank until i lifted it. Now it is at about 18. I've found a few ways to consistently obtain good mpgs in these trucks are to minimize the time it takes to warm the motor, travel 65ish on the highway and to be easy on the throttle in stop/go traffic.
