We have a lot of hills here and this one mountainous highway i take quite a bit ( sea to sky its called ) A lot of times im loaded, i dont want to loose momentum and rev matching is a must for me when aproaching hills, i thought i became a shitty driver but then realized it wasnt me. Even my dad asked why i can never get it right, haha!

If it was more flat where i live, i dont think i would care about the accumulator at all.

i don't know how you could drive with it. i guess you don't spend time at the bite point and modulate around it. that's where i find my power between gears for upshifts. no ADM i couldn't do it and had weak upshifts every time. no longer.

I think the only thing my previous 2nd Gens were better at is pulling hills, any momentum loss seems to hurt on this one.

Never drove 2nd gen MT taco, so cant compare. My ranger had even less power than my current taco, it was like 217 hp and 235 tq, so i really had to make sure i didnt loose momentum before those hills. My taco feels like a race car compared to my ranger, ha!

This is just one small section of that hwy, so you can imagine how hilly and windy it gets.

As someone who had a 2017 TRDOR AT (OVTuned), and now a 2019 TRDOR 6MT (also OVTuned, but prefer stock tune), I can say without a doubt, get the manual. It is such a joy to drive every day, on any road, in any traffic, in any conditions.

Serious question here, why do you prefer stock MT tuning vs OV?

Wow, looks very hilly and winding! The 2nd Gen Manual has quite a bit different experience, makes power down low but runs out of breath at higher RPM's.

I like that I can be super lazy and chill with the throttle and clutch in slow traffic on the stock tune, and when I need to get up and go, I just put my foot down, and get a smooth power delivery, while with the OVTune, I wasn't getting as smooth of a power delivery at WOT. On the OVTune, while it is great, it is not as conducive to consistent stop-and-go traffic in my area. It's more twitchy than stock, but I will say the OVTune map is more consistent with previous MTs I have driven over the years. The power difference was negligible to me.

I felt that out of breath feeling when i drove my buddies 2nd get AT. At 5k rpm she was done.

That was pretty much right on target for a 2nd Gen, pretty much falls flat at 5K whereas this truck puts you back in the seat at 5K.

Thanks for reply, first time i read someone prefered stock tune over OV. I remember a lot of folks said power delivery is smoother with OV , your experience is the opposite, interesting. You on the latest stock ECU update?

I did entartain the idea of OV but, its a 1000$ here, my truck actually drives very well and im not sure about how its gonna affect longevity of the engine. Im planning to keep my beast for at least 10 years. The only thing that i would really want to be better, is the throttle response, but i can live with it. Just gotta mash that pedal sometimes to rev match, haha!

I had a 2017 AT super disappointed in the power. I got the shift sense to help with the sluggish issue. I traded the truck in for a manual transmission. The 4.30 gears in the manual transmission is night and day! I only get 16-17 mpgs with the manual transmission. In the automatic I got 20-23 mpgs

16-17 thats about real world numbers with stop and go traffic. I think its not bad for a 4x4 4600 pound truck.

I'm on 04B41. Rev matching with the OVT is easier than stock, but as I'm sure you know, you can get the job done with a little more stab.

I agree. Throttle is inconsistent, when attempting rev matches it will either not blip high enough or it will over shoot the desired RPM. Rev hang is annoying most when shifting from 1st to 2nd from a red light with traffic behind you. If you slip the clutch to force the rpms down you get a nasty clunk.

i understand this. i do a lotta traffic and my file is smooth but a handful nonetheless. but i like it that way.

@Mrtacoman88 also remember he's a '19 so has the post-TSB base. that's not a problem that needs fixing like before the TSB.
