    Hey everyone,
Need a little help. I've got a gen3 trd off road. Well I didn't truly understand how under powered the Tacoma was before buying. Especially once I put a fiberglass ARE topper on her. Anyway, I lost 2 mpg and a little power. Was going to add some more mods but don't want to have a 12 mpg truck haha.
Are there any mods worth doing that would improve fuel efficiency and and some power. Thanks all

Wait... you can add power. OR you can add efficiency. You cannot add both.
The only way really to increase efficiency is to shed weight but you added it!

the cheap way of fixing it is turn on the ECT. it worked for me. with the 12 ply mud tires the truck wouldn't keep a steady speed without the tranny constantly up shifting to get back up to speed and the truck felt slugish. the rpm constantly jumping up killed my mpg. so after turning on the ECT the truck held a higher rpm so the truck stays at a constant speed now and the rpm is steady. my mpg improved a good amount. the more expensive route to fix the issue is to buy a OVtune.

About the only practical things that are going to increase the power enough to make a noticeable difference are going to be adding a turbo or a supercharger. Both of those things are going to cost you $$$ and MPGs though. Sure you can add lower restriction intakes and higher flow exhaust and even re-map the fuel trims, but only a dyno could truly tell the difference. All of this information is an this site, you just have to search for it.

OVTune and/or ReGear are your main options.

The only mod that will ACTUALLY help is the OVTune calibration and/or re-gearing.

The Tacoma isn't really underpowered, rather the powerband is skewed towards the higher RPM, which is "different". I second using ECT. It really helps w/ throttle response.

I would have to disagree with your "actually" statement, as the TSB flash helped mine and others, so as far as "only", that's certainly debatable.
