I got a 2020 Tacoma Off-Road and the apple car play has been crashing like crazy.. I have gone to the dealer and they have been virtually no help, curious if anyone on here has had the issue and found the fix? My phone has the sinking of notifications or contacts disabled because the dealer said that causes the issues.. Anyone found a solution or experiencing the same issue?

    Thanks!

May be iOS update related. Mine has been crashing more recently on my pioneer head unit and in my Benz.

There is a thread, about cable ( need highend cable) and to many contacts will cause problems. Don't know thread name. Use search, and you should find it. or someone may know offhand and post it here.

This was the problem with my last car that had AA. All of a sudden it just started acting all kinds of crazy. I hard reset the radio, reinstalled AA all to no avail. It wasn't until I noticed it acting up right when I hit a bump that I tried a different cable and the problems went away. A few months later the same thing happened again.

I've found that cheap Amazon USB cables don't last long in cars. I don't know if it's the temp changes or constant usage that breaks them, but I bought a high quality one and haven't had issues since.

I'd try a different cable to rule that option out before more difficult steps are taken.

Use an apple cable. This will give you the highest chance of not having an issue. Anytime I've used an aftermarket cord it's given my radio in my VW an issue.

I am pretty sure its cable related. I have had lots of issues with my Kenwood CarPlay equipped BRZ. It randomly disconnects. forcing the head unit to reboot. It had to experiment with cables and had the best results with the original (white) Apple cable.
The head unit in the Tacoma on the other hand has been rock solid with no disconnects, even when using an after market cable.

On a side note, I noticed that the Taco unit is more restricted than the Kenwood. I can't scroll through all albums, It just shows a couple of recent ones and than tells me to use Siri.
What I do like is that I don't have to 'accept' the start up nag screens, give it time and it will continue to the useable main screen.
    I use iOS 13.4 fwiw

lol that's even worse. A lot of information to be ran wirelessly. Wasn't what apple intended when they designed the product. Aftermarket wireless carplay I presume? That or you have a different vehicle equipped with such witchcraft

No issues here. As others said, it's most likely the cable or the connection points. I'd check to make sure the USB, lightning port, and cable are all clean and proper spec.

No issues so far. My messages and contacts are synced too.

Check the quality of your cable. Also, how old is your phone? Is it possible the charging/data port on it is damaged?

Imagine what the issues will be in 5-10 years when Apple has moved on and the headunit hasn't
