Bob is our Roomba, and he needs help.

Bob works, but his problem is the connection points to the charger. We need a lift kit for his butt so the contacts engage with the charging base.
This is fine if we prop him up with a spare tire, but he can’t go off on his own or return home and charge which basically defeats the purpose of Bob.

Anyone know how we can fix Bob’s charging issue so he can be the strong independent Bob we know him to be?

    Thanks all!

    This is Bob -

Is there something wrong with the base, or is the base sinking into the carpet?

My Roomba, Scruffy, does not have this issue.

Is Scruffy available to train Bob?

Negative on the carpet, Bob and the base are on wood.

I’ve tried cleaning the contacts but that hasn’t helped.

Sorry, Scruffy is, umm, in disposed.

Any chance the contacts on the base are damaged?

Shit dude, Bob can’t get himself out of a corner and traps himself in the bathroom. He’s not the sharpest crayon in the box either.

    Hahaha.

It’s possible. But they work when he’s propped up. Not sure why that’s the case, but the base could 100% be the issue. It’s just not obvious to my untrained eyes.

I dont own one, but would adding weight to the back cause it to sit correctly, so you you don't have to prop up with a tire.
Does it rock back and forth if you push down on it... maybe the wheel bearings or gears have play allowing it to not sit right

I don't know a damned thing about them, but if propping one end up works.. did something fall off he bottom of the unit or anything happen that would put it off balance?

That's a interesting idea. Add some prerunner bro lean to Bob. I can give it a try tonight and see if that works. He doesn't really rock back and forth, but his tires do have a decent amount of droop.

    Negative, everything is still there.

He has some pizza cutter MTs on there now, but might need to go up a size since 35s are the new 33s.

Can you push the wheel between the charging contacts down any? It's hard to tell from the photo but it may be protruding out more than it should be.

Also, do you have a photo of just the base station? The contacts on it may be pushed into the plastic. I'll have to look at mine this evening to compare

The center wheel pops out. Pull it out, clean it, and reseat the wheel. Make sure it clicks when you snap it back in.

I'll check tonight. That could very well be the case (the wheel).

I'll also snag a picture of the base station.

Roger that! Thank you for the tip. It could definitely be the wheel is not seated which is why the contacts aren't making contact unless lifted.

Glad to help. You can also push the center wheel outwards of the housing.

Contacts on the base are good, they’re not pushed in or anything.

Center wheel was wrapped with hair, but nothing under it. Popped it out, cleaned it up, put it back in. Low and behind Bob has no lift kit and is charging!

Strange to think the center wheel being ever so slightly off could have caused it

    TW y’all rock!

I gotta reschedule him and fingers crossed he’s back in action! :D
