The thread title might be a bit strong, but I’d like some opinions on what you all think I should do. I took my truck in for the 15k maintenance this morning which doesn’t include much more than rotating the tires and checking levels. The front right tire on my truck is always a couple psi below the others - I’ll fill it and a day or two later it will be back down. On my way home from the dealer I looked at my trip computer and the right front tire was still the tire that was low.

It seems clear to me that they didn’t rotate the tires. I called the dealer and the service person said that she spoke to the technician and he admitted to not checking the air pressure but that he did rotate the tires and will just have to reprogram something so that it knows where each tire is located. He also said that I marked the tires, which isn’t true.

I don’t want to be the typical angry and unreasonable person, but a dealer saying they performed a service that they didn’t actually perform is pretty bad in my opinion.

Calm down, the truck doesnt register the TPMS to each wheel immediately.

Mark your tires before you get a service. Talk to the manager, what else do you want.

Pretty common. That’s why I get my tires rotated by discount tire every 5k. Not much you can do about it other than take it back and have them do it while you watch.

i always mark my wheels for that reason day before every rotation. I just don't trust anyone who gives free service or any service matter of fact. Not saying all dealerships are like that but it's just a piece of mind for me to know if i'm getting dicked around or not.

How does the TPM know what position the wheel is in? If I switch the right front with the left rear the TPM knows the new location?

Very common. Dealer did nothing but fill my floor mats with water and park my truck in there lot when I took it in for the first service. I haven't returned. I do all the service work myself now.

    Nothing special
Not surprising. It's a constant game with them. Do as little work as possible and hope the owner doesn't notice.

Do what you can on your own. Read up on basic service and get some decent tools.

Want something done right? Do it yourself.

Save the dealer and mechanics for the big stuff.

    It happens.

Maybe find another dealership or do routine maintenance yourself?

Or just try and find an independent mechanic you can trust.

First service fraud motivated me to find a good independent shop to service both our Toyotas. We're much happier with the value proposition now. Dealer only for recalls, or campaigns as they are now euphemistically named.

There is a reset button. The procedure is in the manual. It will reset the positions.

It's included in the price of the truck, just like your warranty is. So yes, we paid Toyota for it and Toyota pays dealer for the service.
