When somebody asks "do I need locker" - they don't need locker. But it can be fitted later if the person suddenly needs it, doubt.

we can always move it day after, etc. I am just gathering interest. Seeing where all those "promising" Hamilton and west of GTA peeps will show up:boink:

And we have a winner for the new location for a 2020 TEC newbie run! In today's session we will teach how to approach curbs, do some recoveries using traction boards on the front lawn of the house as well as how to use winch against the house. :crapstorm:

No mud flaps, and a cool sticker.
So what kind of things are needed for beginner trails in Ontario? I think its time I start collecting parts for my truck for this coming summer. I'm probably gonna need new tires, so I was thinking maybe 30"s (nothing too huge), other then those I was thinking sliders and maybe some skid plates? I feel like winches and lockers might be a little more than I need currently.

All you really need to have good fun is 30"tires, sliders and some kind skid plates of your taste, stock can do.

We go often to Ardberg in the summer, you can join and do some easy trails for start to get used to wheeling, or watch some carnage.

I remember those good times when it was fun and exiting to go on trails with small tires... :burnrubber:

I think 265’s are the biggest you can go with no lift
That should be fine for most stuff

make sure you get a good recovery point for the front and the rear if you dont have a hitch. Something that takes 3/4” shackles is best
I had a front shackle mount from BPF before bumper i think ARB makes a nice one too

    tow strap and shackles

Skids and sliders are very good to have with our trails. What ones you go with are up to you. Aluminum ones are more for weight savings and if your more concerned with only occasionally touching them
IMO aluminum is NOT good material for armor and our wheel bases are longer so hitting your skids is very likely
And if you do get skids i highly recommend doing the exhaust reroute.

learning good line choices and throttle control goes a long way as well

Well it seems I put traction boards to the test on the regular. Even though I only go down dirt roads :infantry:

USAction trax sent me a brand new set for warranty of my set I purchased, since they both 'slightly' cracked but still work perfect. Now I have 4.

1 of the warranty replacement boards seems to have split on me this weekend when I was out with @Marc70

Contacted USAction trax again, new set will be sent in 2 weeks when they mold brand new ones. He is concerned I got 2 sets from the same run that have an issue.

    Now I will have 6!

I recommend everyone purchase a set of these if you want boards, top notch warranty. 2 year warranty, no weight limitations. You can recover a transport with them  They are used by the US military for everything.

it's a good warranty, but quality wise... when you'll need it the most it'll fail. I wouldn't trust that kind of product and just ask for refund and get maxtraxx.

I tried for 3 weeks to purchase maxtraxx, could not. That is why I have these.

All 4 of them are still perfectly usable, then I will have 6.

Customer service and warranty is HUGE to me, the way maxtraxx treated me I would never recommend them to anyone, ever. Customer service was a -1 out of 10 for them. They ran me around in circles when I just wanted to throw money at them, good luck with a warranty claim. :anonymous:

So, you can remember last week then...

Are you still running those Timbit Tires?
If you want.... at the next meetup....
I'll loan you my lightbar so we can mount it on your truck... Take some pics...
it'll at least help your tires look bigger than something found on a Fiat.

Have you test fitted the 44's yet?

You gotta at least hit 40's, or the Jeep guys are gonna say you're still shopping in the Women's section of the tire shop.

    Wisest words ever spoken at the Kingston Pen., that even applies here;

    Get Big, :benchpress:

    Or
    Get a husband. :duh:

You don't want some big black Jeep guy, tryin' to put a wig on you do you?:help:

    :D

    Truck is looking good btw.

After spending couple nights having insomnia and drinking vodka all weekend long I've concluded 35s is the maximum tire size that won't destroy steering rack after each wheeling trip, 37s are going to be a nightmare in terms of continuing having truck as DD.

To fit 37s I need at minimum
new rims 17" with at least 3.5BS spacers might be involves too... :duh:
new tires, 37s fuck yeah bud! :dancingbacon:
    tub firewall :sawzall::welder:
    re-gear:deadhorse:
    new alignment

and that's not including all trimming and cutting already been done...

So if anyone wants to sponsor that adventure build and got $8,000 available let me know! :D:spending:

35s are still out of reach for most here, till then you all keep wearing that wig you are talking about

For $8k.... You may have to put that wig back on....

Sounds like you've done some good Russian homework and Engineering.... Since copious amounts of Wodka was involved.

I think you're right about the steering rack, some people are having issues even with stock tires... it's not known for it's robustness.

Might want to look at the Tundra steering rack conversion regardless.

I think the way you wheel, and with 35's on your DD,
your "outside the deign parameters" for the stock system.
So have all the parts ready so can pop 'em in, when you pop the stock one.
And never worry about the steering rack 'till you hit 50' tires...

Did the weight of the bumper and winch affect the front end height much?
    Change the handling at all?

    Looks sweet.

I destroyed my steering rack after 40K kms on stock 31s.:anonymous:
Tacoma racks are junk pulled of corollas...

Already on second rack here and it's held for 40K now :fingerscrossed: But yeah, I am exploring options in that department and that's another $2000 for the steering rack from tundra, so $10,000 needed for 37s as of now :annoyed:

    are 2" worth $10,000?:anonymous:

I don't want to count how much I spent on the truck already, about 15K in 2 years :anonymous::annoyed: and I only fitted 35s.

So it's safe to say you need $21,000 to do 37s, bumpers, skids and winch:spending:

ps. And I still owe another year for this truck to a bank :ballchain:

Lol called it on the rack....

But I'd say the rack is something you should consider for 35's... since you'll be keeping this truck for quite a while.

Is it worth it for 2"....
Only people that can answer that is.... you and your girlfriend... (she's nodding)

Only fitted 35's? Errrr, Ummmm so you just went from stock size to where you are today...?

    Or :spending:, :spending:, :spending:....

    :p

If you were not Russian, I would say that 35's are the reasonable limit for a DD Tacoma. Cost vs Benefit.

Drivetrain was not meant for that much rotating mass.
You create a money pit and you start to hear snap crackle pop a lot more.

Interesting, when I added just the steel version of a similar bumper without the winch (80Lbs) ,
my stock sport front end dropped almost 1/4" ,
and for the first time would nose dive a bit when stopping
and wallow a little bit and softer when cornering.
Made it similar the the feel of an OR.

I changed the coilovers before I put the winch on though, which is prob the same one you have at 70lbs.
