This is a question for RockAuto. I'm again replacing my driver side exterior door handle on my '96 Tacoma. I've replaced this side 4 times, with the last being from an ebay vendor that lasted 4 days as a warranty replacement on one that lasted less than a year. Both of these broke at a new spot- the inside top of the chromed plastic handle where it pushes down on the metal pivot. Earlier ones all cracked underneath the handle on the outside, just next to the lock. I'm looking at two on your site, both ACI. One is chrome (item 360818), like what's on my truck, for $13.62, and the other is black (item 360814), for $31 and change. I have no problem with paying more if the material is more durable and will last longer. The color is not important to me with this mountain truck. Both items have a one year warranty. Is one better than the other? It's a great truck with over 305,000 miles, and I'm going to drive it as long as I last. I'd like to not keep taking the door apart. ....are there any other handles with a metal grab, instead of plastic? Any info will be appreciated. ....the latch on the door works properly, as does the lock and interior handle. Handles function as intended until they break in short order. Nothing seems to be resisting or under stress. I will lube it all up again when I take it apart this time, just to ensure smooth operation. Anyway, thanks in advance for a reply.
