I did a lot of research and initially it was between Colorado, Frontier, Tacoma, and the yet to be released Gladiator. I was sort of set on a Gladiator until I saw the price and how it compared to the other trucks on my list so I scratched that off. I didn't care for the Colorado it just seemed off when I test drove it and the Frontier was a bit dated and I didn't see any I liked out on the road. I wasn't sold on the Tacoma until I took it for a test drive and added up the dealer incentives plus Costco pricing. I like the versatility of the Tacoma so if I want to hit the trails I can or if I need to haul stuff for the house I can do that as well or add a smaller trailer to expand on hauling. It also fit in my garage where a full sized would not. So far it's exactly what I need and while it wasn't the least expensive option it looks like it will hold up better over time. The safety sense options are a real plus as well and even my wife is impressed with it and she was trying to push me into a Ridgeline because of consumer reports.

I've had mine since May of 2019 and one thing I didn't factor in at time of purchase was how much I've enjoyed adding modifications to the truck and getting back into turning wrenches aside from routine maintenance stuff, my garage is more like a garage now that it was in the past.

Well for starters I've driven small cars my entire life. I wanted a change. Something more practical and useful for the space. Something safe and with great resale value (although I don't think I'll ever sell my Taco.) The way the taco looks really attracted me and also did plenty of research. Overall no regrets.

I needed a 4x4 to take up to the mountains for some snowboarding. I would like to start doing some off road adventures and not rely on my friends to drive when we go camping and hit the sand dunes. I have a Lexus to drive the family around and a Civic to take to work. The Taco is more for my excursions and it fits in my garage.

Because my 14 Forester was a pile of junk.... two engine replacements, plus two other engine-out jobs in the span of 21k miles due to an unresolved oil consumption issue and dealer techs screwing up repair jobs. That car was a nightmare... it scared me back into the reliability cocoon that is Tacoma (owned two other Tacomas prior to the Subaru).

I bought my Tacoma for 2 reasons: reliability and capability. For capability, I don't even know where to start. Off-road, it'll do anything I ask. In terms of reliability, this is my 3rd Taco. Through all the years I had my first two trucks, only two things went wrong with them: a broken clip on the center console and a snapped parking brake cable. Literally the only things.

I need a truck to go out in the country on weekends. Where we go is 3/4-1 mile off the road. Pretty good dirt road with some rocks in some places where needed, so nothing too difficult, but not a place I'd take a car.

Otherwise I would drive a performance car.

I bought my Tacoma for multiple reasons but for one my dad purchased a 2017 4x4 and he loved his. Secondly, my little Honda Civic was getting too small when my son was born. Loving my TRD off-road. With the shell I have a ton more space and luxury of 4x4 when I need it

After pulling my 3000 lb boat for 12 years with a V6 Rav4 and accruing 200K miles on the poor little thing, I'd decided enough was enough. Axle seals, rear differential, transmission all were on their way out. With the kids out of the house I did not want a family hauling SUV and a mid-size pickup made the most sense. Always had eyes on the Tacoma and liked the slight MPG bump, aggressive styling, and refinement of the 3rd gen versus 2nd gen (considered going used). Never really considered a different truck. As an earlier poster stated, I very much look forward to driving it every day.

I bought an early production 2016 model year and have had no issues other than the transmission software update. No break downs and the only issue I've had was a leaky shock covered under warranty. It's not under powered and fuel economy isn't terrible if you know how to drive it. Keep it in sport mode and don't drive with a lead foot and you're golden.

I bought my Tacoma because it was my dream vehicle. I'd had a taste of truck life previously and couldn't get rid of that need. It hauls whatever I want, wherever I want, whenever I want and I know it will always be reliable with proper, consistent maintenance. Granted I don't tow and likely never will other than a U-Haul but I can pack the bed full and disappear for weeks if I really want to and it will get me where I need to go without fail. It fits me and a friend and many weeks worth of stuff all in the compact access cab package. Plus it looks damn good.

Edit: like the guy above my comment I too look forward to driving it every day. I leave my house, look in the driveway and know I wouldn't change a thing.
