Im contemplating doing some sound deadening on the doors and on the removable panels. I’ve noticed some buzzing from the panels when the bass gets a little deep. Currently when it happens I just push my knee against the panel and it noticeably stops the vibration.

been looking at second skin damplifier pro (never used before) or good’ol dynamat. Anyone got insight on which one works better?

Great post, copied the full Kicker setup and it sounds great, huge improvement! Thanks!!

What I learned was make sure to install the clips and inserts onto the door panel and "wing" panels before reinstalling either and they go back together nicely... otherwise it's a battle and it may not work.

Sorry if answered. Do the tweeters mentioned in the original post fit the 2nd gen?

You could make them fit, yes. But they won't be plug and play like in the third gen, which is the main reason for going with those tweeters. You could find better tweeters for less money, since you'd have to modify either way.

Seems folks are also really happy w/ the Infinity speakers, so if someone want's to PM me the links I'll update OP w/ some options. My old Kickers are still going after 2.5yrs with no buzzing or anything. No degradation I've noticed whatsoever in mine for what it's worth, but also happy to provide some alternatives that keep this in the "budget" category

Finalized my version of this upgrade. Did the audio upgrade using the Key Amp and wiring harness to keep my factory Headunit but improve my sound significantly. I’m extremely pleased with the result and couldn’t have gotten through it without this thread. Wasn’t looking for bass which is why I selected what I did. Parts listed below. I wired the amp into my center console for easy gains and loss adjustment while driving and altered my center console organizer to make it fit with a crisp look. Super happy with how it turned out.

    JBL Club 9630 6x9 3-Way Coaxial Speakers

    Focal ISS165 6-1/2" 2-Way Component Speakers

Genuine Subaru H631SFJ101 Kicker Tweeter Kit

    Kicker 45KEY1804 4-channel 45 x 4 Key Smart Amp

Dynamat Extreme on all four doors.

All and all I’m pretty happy with the upgrade and it was nice to retain my factory look.

Awesome Thread! Decided I had to try the hardware out myself. Found the Kickers front and back at best buy for cheaper and faster; the tweeters and tools and brackets I got off Amazon. I'll be done Friday Evening hopefully!

I am preparing to do the speaker upgrade in my 2020 Sport Premium as soon as it warms up (in Canada with no garage :( ). I've read most of this thread and I am sold on the Subaru tweeters. I am considering options for the front and rear door speakers. I came across these and wonder if anyone has tried them or otherwise know anything about them? Do they even fit?? Being in Canada, the price on the Canadian Crutchfield site for the Kickers is pretty steep ($180 CAD just for the fronts!)...

    https://www.amazon.com/Rockford-Fos...0989&sprefix=rockford+fosgate+,aps,160&sr=8-3

Also, good catch @proximo on the rear door speaker connectors for the 2020:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-2018-T...ket-Speaker-Install-Wire-Harness/401973183675

Any other Canucks here who may have a source for decent prices? Other suggestions/options?:canada::rockband:

Not much to add that thanks to this thread I've been enjoying this affordable upgrade for almost two years now. It was worth every penny, my only complaint is I'm at the point where it I've got the itch to take the next step with a dedicated sub and amplified component speakers.

How do you like the JBL’s? I went with infinity but battled between Alpine and JBL. Good bass response?

I personally think it’s plenty of bass. However, I’m not a huge fan of bass. I love the artist NF though so I obviously wanted his songs to sound good.

I didn’t publicize it on here either but if you go looking on Amazon, those 6x9’s can be found for about 60% what they cost everywhere else. There is a company liquidating their bench stock of JBL on Amazon and I got those for a stupid great deal.

I just bought this same package on Amazon- much less than the Kickers, and hopefully they dont suck. For around $80 if they improve at all over factory, I'll be happy.
Im going to install soon- so when i do, I'll be sure and post pics/review of the speakers.

Went with the OP recommended Kicker kit. Installed tweeters today, difference is night and day. Now the treble is so crisp and loud, it's clear how much the bass is lacking...the rest of the speakers arrive from Crutchfield tomorrow. I am mucho excito.

Been spying on this thread for a while and pulled the trigger on the OP recommended speakers and tweeters. Gotta say i am highly impressed for the money. Had a silverado with the “bose” system (no sub) before and I can say this setup is on par or slightly better sounding than the bose system.

Just swapped the tweeters out for the recommended ones (Subaru tweeter kit) and it made a WORLD of a difference. Will update when I swap out the F/R door speakers as well. If you're on the fence, at least do the tweeters. So simple and enormous improvement in clarity.

UPDATE: Installed front and rear door speakers (the kickers). They are much clearer than the stock speakers. I'd say it is a nice improvement for the money, but the tweeters in the dash are where you really improve the system. I am considering a behind-the-seat small sub. Will update if I do this.

I have a few days with the full Kicker speaker set now, definitely a major upgrade. A few things to note:

-The BIGGEST difference was the subaru tweeters. I know everybody wants some bumpin' bass, but if you only had $100 to spend, buy the tweeters. They make all the vocals and highs in the music incredibly articulate.
-Front door speakers are certainly an improvement. I love to fiddle with EQ settings and I'm definitely getting more power and tone than I did with the Pioneers I put in my last truck.
-Stock rear speakers seem like they had slightly better build quality than the fronts for some reason, and there is so little power sent to the rear I think it wasn't even absolutely necessary to replace. But whatever, do them all then never worry about it again I guess.
-When you CRANK the volume into the 50s it starts to strain it. These speakers are ready for more power so I may add a Kicker key amp at some point if I really want to get loud, but I'm pretty satisfied for the moment. It's already loud enough that I'm going to have to take apart my door panels to mute some vibrations.

    I appreciate the recommendations.
