My buddy is getting rid of his 2018 OEM TRD Off-Road front struts and rear shocks so that he can get a lift kit. They've got 18k on them and look like new. Will they direct bolt on to my 2012 TRD Off-Road Taco? Mine are originals with 134k on them and are due for replacing and I'm too cheap to buy new. lol. Thanks!

Yeah dude and they'll make a difference from your worn out 8 year old suspension. Just make sure to look up the coil paint colors to get the driver's passenger side right the first time.

That's a good bud right there, be sure to give him a case of beer

Are 3rd gen shocks identical to 2nd gen shocks? Or are 3rd gen shocks a bit better?

There are little dabs of paint on the coils that correspond to the driver or passenger sides. Or he can label when he removes them

Yes they’re a direct fit. The springs on the front have some paint “dots” that indicate which side the shock is for...to eliminate taco lean. I’ll see if I can pull up photos of when i did this years ago.

    Edit:
    Found the photos

Red / Green - Drivers Side

Red / Blue - Passenger side

If you end up doing the leaf springs those too are side specific coming from the third gen.

like @ilubtimmyhos said, the coilovers have little dabs of paint on the coils to signify what side they go on to prevent the Taco lean. Red/green and red/blue. Just remember the driver is always "green to go"(red/green).

and idk about better but definitely better than what you have now lol the first suspension mod I did on my tacoma was 3rd gen takeoffs and it was a definite improvement.

I thought the 3rd gens got the 3+1 packs and the 2nd gens got the 2+1?

not sure what year it happened in, but all the seconds after a certain point were changed to 3+1.
