Problem is, at least in the 1/2 ton truck class, much of the actual production is in Mexico and Canada.
GM was still building the 2500/3500 here, but not the 1500.

Remember the early '90s, when the Ford Crown Vic was officially classified as an import car?

So I found my 2017 Taco and was really hoping to find a Texas one but found a killer deal on a Mexican one...since you help build them, do you know if any parts are made in Texas? I just want my truck to somehow have a piece of Texas in it lol!

Toyota Tacoma was designed for North America to replace the Hilux which was a global product at the time. The 1st gen designer is an American named Kevin Hunter at CALTY, a design studio in California, it was first built at NUMMI by union labor in Fremont, California with a mix of domestic and import parts. CALTY designs many of Toyota’s North American products here in the US, the FJ Cruiser, Tundra, 2018 Camry and many others are designed here in the US. Tacoma is a very American vehicle IMO, the brand is Japanese but the truck itself does not impress me as an import.

Don’t have any specific details but I know that Toyota has many suppliers right on their property. I’m almost certain Toyota builds many components on site at TMMTX.

I’m still disappointed about that news.

Zombie thread back from the dead!

Jeezus, I hate looking back at the stupid threads I made.

BTW, that first sentence was bullshit and never happened, just wanted the attention and post a picture of my truck like most thread starters now.

I was shocked to see that the current Ford Ranger (at least the North American version) is built in Michigan; Colorado/Canyon is built in Missouri; Our trucks are built in California and Mexico, correct?

It’s American if you drive it in the US ig :crapstorm:
Usually it’s cheaper for a company to have it made where it’s sold because it’s not really cost effective to build them overseas and then ship em here
