This is one reason I was glad when I got my 2013. I hate my 2012 got wrecked but glad I was able to get rid of it.

Anything is possible with the proper procedural motivation. ;)

No I'm not endorsing getting fixed smogs on your rigs folks!

Stupid SAI systems. Federal and 50 state emissions is literally encouraging all later gen 2nd gens to catch on fire by forcing the end consumer to run their SAI system. And then they wonder why people break the law and delete their emissions equipment.

I was at one dealership that said I was covered for this. Then moved for work and the dealership in this town says they go by vin numbers and mine isn’t covered. Damn dealerships. 2012 trd sport.

Hi everyone! Sorry for the late response, I went into the dealership with all the information I had and told them the exact problem and the fact it was covered under the extended warranty. They had the mechanic check over it and confirm this was indeed the problem, in Canada this is $2500 fix and luckily it was fully covered! It’s only took them 1 hr to fix once the parts were in. @DirtTaco i would take in the documentation and go after them, since it’s a major problem with the 2012, they should be fixing it without giving you a hassle

Also anyone that has this problem I would suggest you don’t clear the error codes and take it straight to the dealership so they can’t debate it with you. Once the mechanic checked out mine they cleared the codes and they didn’t come back, so it’s best to leave them on. I limped my vehicle to the dealership with the codes on and could barely make it up a small incline.

One more note. On the extended warranty paperwork it states that no provisions will be made for a rental car. I went after the service manager and toyota for this and they wouldn’t budge. They basically said we are doing you a favour by extending this warranty we don’t have to do any more. This pissed me off, especially since they are sent me away in a vehicle with a known defect and the mechanic recommended not to drive it for safety issues if it were to go into limp mode on the highway. I lost some faith in toyota over this.

    I'm a 2013 so I don't think I'll get it, but it's worth a shot.

Yeah. I've got to get it done. I think that's the issue anyway, certainly matches what I've read. If I'm lucky they'll start to include 2013's at some point, but I won't hold my breath.

I got very lucky. I had a pending code, called the dealer, they verified that I was covered and ordered the parts sight unseen. It never threw a code but before I left my house to go to the dealer I took a pic of the pending code. They didn't question anything and an hour and half later I was rolling out of the dealer. They even washed the truck....

I went to a trusted mechanic and he confirmed the codes were for the secondary air injection. He cleared them and suggested I give it a day or so and see if they return. He thinks they may have just frozen up and might be okay. I'm guessing they'll have to be replaced at some point, but I'm okay if I can hold it off for a while.

You might have bought yourself some time, but most assuredly they will return. There's no telling when but they will. First time mine went pending it was maybe 6 months that it reappeared. From then it became more frequent.....

Mine has been coming on and off as well, and finally stayed on, I work aways away from the toyota stealership so it has been on for a about a month and a bit constant, finally had time to bring it in, and I get the P2443 code, it was reset, and it came back 2 days later, disconnected the battery and 2 days later it came back again. I swear some of these parts were designed to rape us of money. I have a 13 taco and live in Canada, any chance that there is a recall or extended coverage for us up here with 2013 models in canada? I can't for the life of me figure out the website that shows canada toyota recalls.

The air injection system on this truck wasn't designed to rape you. They all suck. Everyone should carry a code reader so when it goes off you can actually get home instead of chugging along in limp mode.

That's the weirdest thing my code doesn't put me into limp mode. So I haven't really had much issue and my truck hasn't been affected. Even the Toyota mechanic said it wasn't causing issues.
