If one of you guys had a welder for me to use, I'd be doing fab work over there. Just built these little guys last night:

Just wanted to say thank you for all the good info in this thread really quick, been a huge help.

That being said - does anyone have any experience installing an Access Rack on a 1st gen Tacoma with a bare roof? (No channels or weatherstripping)
I'm sure it's been done but haven't been able to find any info

Not a whole lot of info out there, but the process is overall the same- measure, drill, install rivnuts, seal and install. It might be best to build the perimeter rack and place it on the roof so you can get accurate placement of the rack before you commit to it.

    Thanks for the quick response
Figured it would be the same, just seems so daunting as mentioned before (many times) in this thread.
I guess theres nothing left for me to do except for order the racks and get to it!
I'm sure I'll come back with more questions or pics when I'm all done.

    Thanks again

Drop the headliner first so you can see where you're drilling. Then you can use nut/bolts or rivnuts. Use bitumen patches inside and out. I loosened the air curtains too because they looked to close for comfort.

This is one of the rear holes on the passenger side with the air curtain bolted back up.

In keeping with Tacoma standards, we used M6 since that's that double cabs are threaded for on the stock roof rack mounting points.

I did mention that since you're adding rivnuts, you kind of have the option of using whatever fastener you want or what you have on hand. I like changing things over to SAE whenever the opportunity presents itself because that allows you to use grade 8 hardware- purely for the cosmetic and corrosion resistance of the zinc coating.

Does anyone have pictures for 2020 SR AC with headliner dropped? Or if SR even has airbags there?

All of our trucks do from the base model on up. I highly recommend dropping the headliner and removing the airbag bolts so they can be shifted out of the way if you’re going to drill. Over the driver's door there’s some room but above the clamshells it’s very tight. This thread has some good pics as well as step by step instructions that are close enough for us.

FWIW it’s easier to remove the headliner in an AC than the DC because clamshells instead of B-pillar.

This might be my next mod. It's probably been asked 10 times in this thread already, but how is the wind noise with the access cab?
