Not really much benefit to your truck using it, but buying it does benefit the community.

Its made from petroleum. Buying it helps the oil industry, which provides jobs for friends and family here in Louisiana :)

    That benefits everyone :)

It was kinda a joke :)

Buying it helps people keep their jobs, but it really doesnt do too much, if anything to help your engine :)

I don't hear it increase with engine speed either. No idea what it is, sorry.

Clean fuel injectors, help clean the back of the intake valves. May help clean tops of the pistons. Try one that has PEA. Redline SL1, Chevron with Techron concentrate and Amsoil PI are my choices. I run them before every oil change. Run top tier fuel as well. My 4.0L doesn’t tick at least as far as I can tell.

I've Been listening to the clip over and over. If there is actually a flutter like in the video, and not just a sound trick in the video, possible cause may be a small leak in the intake gasket.

The main noise, I'm still racking my brain.

Please keep us posted bro! The more info you post the better. With the combined experience on TacomaWorld, someone here will have had the same issue at some point and be able to point you in the right direction.

My truck started up once similar to this last winter for a few seconds--and it just did it again for about three quarters of a second the other day when it was one of the cooler days of the week--then ran fine. It has only happened those two times.

My dad (tech) suggested it was most likely the intake gasket expanding and shrinking from temp changes and ending up in a perfect state to temporarily mess with intake flow. Usually only a concern for higher mileage vehicles, supposedly. I found it weird that something like that could only occur at certain temps.

But I didn't bother to go further since it is not consistent and nothing looked weird on a scan tool.

A cold day makes sense. The gasket was constricted from being so cold. Heat makes the gasket expand. Props to your pop's. :) if you do end up changing the gasket, coat it with engine oil first... verify with your pop :)

If I’ve never used it on my truck before and it has 300,000km on it would it clog shit up if I used it? I heard about it clogging the cats and exhaust from all the gunk, I think that was related to sea foam.

I run it for piece of mind. If your engine is that gummed up it would run like shit.

When the throw out bearing on my old Forester was going, it squeaked. That squeak went away with a slight pressure on the clutch pedal.

It sounds like a pully. My money is on the power steering pump pully.

10k miles ago along with idler pulleys. This noise is coming from transmission location. Changing fluid this weekend and see if that changes anything

It's called cold weather. Don't sweat it. Will do that for the next 10 yrs or until the frame rusts in two. Spend your money on beer.
Mine does the same thing. For several winters now.

Hey guys, a year later I guess I'll revive this.
Having the exact same issue as OP.
    2015 4.0L 6speed scan. 210,000kms.

Truck runs great, clutch engages/disengages/doesn't slip.
Have that same 'squeal' as OP posted in video. Sound lessens is I push clutch in.
But the squeal Goes away after driving for 5mins or so.
Though it was the throwout bearing at first, but I realized sound goes away after full warm up.

Did anyone find the exact issue? Or is the consensus that this is not an problem, and just do to the cold?
Only noticed it this winter (-20⁰C to -5⁰C)

Thanks to anyone that can add input!

I noticed this after a transmission oil change. Any of you having the sound problem have the same correlation?

Throwout bearing squeak is different (I had mine replaced) and is present cold or hot

Man this is an old thread . Hope you figure out what it is . Funny thing …. I have a 2008 Scion XD that sounds identical to this on cold start until engine warms up. They are notorious for crap water pumps . is that even a thing with the second gen tacos ?
