For those that have put HAM radios in there, what models have you used and any pics of the mounting and modification process?

Although now I cant decide if I want the FJ stick mod instead. I have always disliked push button 4x4

Got any pics of the install of either that 7900 or the 8900 you have in there now?

Not that I could find. But the radio body and the speaker are under the seat. I then ran the cat5 cable from the body to the radio head in the dash. It's pretty self explanatory if you just look at it for a sec. The head has a little plastic cradle that holds the head secure, and that is attached to the console with a bolt and a washer + nut on the backside.

So you didnt actually have to cut out the bottom of the pen cradle to put the head in? Just drill a hole for the cradle bolt and remove the console to tighten the nut on the backside?

Thanks for the reply, trying to figure out which radio to go with based on which ones fit in that pen cradle area.

I’m thinking about an herb garden. Parsley, basil, maybe some rosemary.

Camp lighter/toy when at a red light, currently a Megadeth lighter, and my seat belt alarm silencer when not in use. Wallet goes in the right pocket by the steering wheel.

Yes, that's correct. Now if your radio doesn't have a removable face plate, you're gonna have to trim.

Yaesu models should all be separable, as are some kenwoods. You can look on DXEngineering to get the face plate dimensions for the 7900/8900 to see what other models may fit.

the Kenwood tm-281 is the exact size of the cubbie. Just cut out the bottom and it will slide in with enough tension to hold it in place. There was a guy making brackets underneath that held it but I haven’t had mine jiggle or move in the 2 years it’s been in there. The radio is the perfect height that it sits almost flush with the panel when all the way down.
