All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Most seats are made out of vinyl, even if they say leather is really only a couple pieces on the seat are leather. The seats in my runner at that SoftTex fo-leather and I like them. One of the more comfy seats I have owned. At least they are better than the tacos. My seats in the pro taco are way firmer than the ones in the runner.

So the lost cargo space is really at the ceiling. An area that rarely sees cargo in my vehicles.
Good observation. Being able to separate the mini monsters that I love seems like I great option some days. Isn’t it better to have and not need it than to need it and not have it? Isn’t that why 80% of 4wd owners own a 4wd?

Not gonna restate things, but I’ll have to politely agree to disagree on the lost cargo space aspect. You’re entitled to you’re opinion and I did ask.

Admittedly my perception of what size vehicle/cargo space is ‘necessary’ may be skewed. Our primary vehicle for a family of 4 and 2 dogs is a Subaru Crosstrek. Not exactly a big/spacious vehicle by today’s standards. We do run a Thule roof top cargo box as well when needed. So when we were shopping around at 4runners that was a variable that was on the table. Plus coming from a small crossover, the cargo area of a 4Runner (even a 3rd row equipped in the stow position) is cavernous to me.

The 3rd row doesn't really take away that much cargo space. I just know it's not anything we will ever use. If a 3rd row 4runner deal was too good to pass up, sure we would probably jump on it if it had the other things we wanted. But with the amount of inventory out there and pricing pretty much the same of models with or without it, we will most likely choose to go without it. Plus some of the non 3rd row ones we have been looking at have a factory sliding rack. So i think we'd rather have that instead. B/c we can install and remove that whenever we want and those don't come on the 3rd row versions I don't think.

Correct. 3rd row makes the slider a no go.

I do like that option, but I think a 4Runner equipped with the slider likely suffers the same lose of cargo space as the 3rd row equipped. Definitely a user friendly option though.

We were going back and forth on whether we wanted a 3rd row or not when shopping. Obviously I ended up in another taco. We’ll cross that bridge again whenever we retire the wife’s crosstrek.

I agree it does pretty much take up the same space as the 3rd row folded but I'm pretty sure it can easily be installed and removed and reinstalled when needed/wanted. But again these things really are at the back of the priority list. price, mileage, part time 4wd, heated seats, and moon roof and color (blue, white, or black)are really the big ones we need to check off the list to pull the trigger.

I had a 4Runner back into my 2014 Tacoma’s rear quarter in a parking lot. $2100 later my 2500 mile old truck had a bedside replaced and painted. At least he stayed around and swapped insurance info.

All of yours should be fixable by a paintless dent repair company. Harbor freight also sells two sizes of bodywork suction cups that would take out the bigger dent.

@MAG GRY TACO15 Best thing if you’re on the fence is go it them in person side by side. With all this feedback/advice in mind, you’ll be better able to tell if you need the 3rd row.

Yeah good idea. Side by side compassion would be nice. Our good friends have a 3rd row seat and my father in law had a a 2017 with a 3rd row too. Neither of them have ever used it and told us they never even think about it bc they forget they have it haha. But yeah a side by side would be nice. Maybe this weekend we will do that

Someone mentioned the top space/area of the trunk going unused...
Other thing to consider and it’s a pet peeve of mine but maybe not yours... I like to be able to see unobstructed out the back glass whenever possible... what I noticed when shopping for 4runners a few years ago... the third row makes all your cargo sit up about 5 inches higher from the floorboard. That means anything bigger than a grocery bag (slightly dramatic but not far from the truth) is gonna start blocking your rear view...

    Happy Friday bros!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Q7BJ2YQ works great for us and is cheaper - the pouches end up gathering toddler detritus. We replaced one with pouches with these and have been happier.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QHO2SLM will pay for itself the first time your kiddo pees out a diaper.

+1 on all the leather seat recommendations, but don't stress, you can always get Clazzios. I've added Clazzios to the last 3 cars we've had and they have been amazing.

We keep the 2.5 year old in the middle and the 6 year old behind my wife in the passenger seat. It works a lot easier that way.

Best of luck to you and yours on parenting adventures. There's nothing like it. :)

You know, your not a true overlander until you remove your oem slidy thing, to add more aftermarket slidy things.

Anyone got a good mechanic for random maintenance etc? I'm at 65k miles and just want a good check up and general work done...I'm sure I can do a lot of myself, but generally not interested in doing it. Looking for someone I can go to for the next few years with all my cars etc.

I'm in Dunwoody but don't mind a drive if highly recommended. thanks!

Anybody have any recommendations for getting this off? My truck had some fading window vents on it, and I took them off this week. I got most of the adhesive off but there’s still some left. I tried goo gone, but there’s still this left.

I’ve been successful with goo gone or goof off. Just don’t let it sit on the paint for too long. Alternate goo gone scrubbing with dry towel wiping...
    Or rubbing alcohol. Same technique.

Goo gone. If that doesn't work the. Use one of these.
It's what I used to remove the factory oin strip on my Tacoma and also the left over sticky when I took off the dealership badge on the back of my car and a buddy's F250. Just use light pressure.

There's an intersection near me that keeps getting flagged on Waze for construction. Today, I saw the lone regular cone sitting on the sidewalk.

    C'mon, man.

WD40 that sucker. It will come off.
If it will clean my dirt bike chain, it will clean that off.
