I posted this the other day. I still replace them every 30k. Probably overkill though.

Sounds like a crappy mix. So little snow this winter the snowmobiling up here has been abysmal

Need some advice from all you OEM loving sons of guns.

I have been at my current job going on 4 years. It's pretty much my dream job. I enjoy most of the work and get paid about twice what I ever expected to make. I have been promoted once since I started.

A couple of the senior employees are getting ready to retire. My foreman and supervisor have implied that, should I apply, I would be a shoo- in for the position. Oddly enough, that's the problem. I don't want it.

I make enough money, only work OT when I want, and live a stress free existence. That changes the next level up. More responsibility, more indoors work, more stress, and yes, more money.

So, do I man up and do what management wants and risk taking the enjoyment out of my job? I know everyone's perspective and situation varies, but I'd like to hear some opinions.

I wouldn't say that applying for a job that will possibly take the enjoyment out of you going to work as "Manning Up".

To me "Manning Up" is always doing a good job and knowing in yourself what makes you happy. Plus being willing to do the unpopular thing and not do what others want you to do. Because those people aren't looking out for you. They're looking out for themselves.

I was once in the exact same position. My Big Boss told me to put my name in for a promotion. Told me that I'd get it for sure. But when l asked myself if I'd be happy if l got the promotion, l always came up with the same anwser, No!

You gotta do what will make you happy in the end You only get one chance at life. No do overs.

This is what I've been telling myself. In most of my previous jobs I couldn't afford not to apply for higher positions. This is the first time I have had the choice financially.

I guess you could say I have been "programmed" to strive for the next level and it feels sort of foreign to have the opportunity and not take advantage of it.

Is this “next level” your supervisor/boss?

Could someone else step into that position and make things worse...?

One thing to consider: are you comfortable with someone else taking that position?

Ive also delt with this recently and fortunately I’ve had some great supervisors/bosses.

Anthony....how old are you? Are you anywhere near retirement? If so, maybe more money wouldn't be a bad thing for a few years. If not, that might be a long time to potentially be unhappy.

If you do not take the promotion will management see that as a negative?

I'm 44. Got at least another 15 years before considering retirement. I actually don't know if it will be seen as a negative or not. I want to remain to be considered a valuable employee because I have no intention of leaving.
