Fuck no that's overpriced. I got my 2013 with around the same miles fully loaded for 2k less

SoCal trucks are always on the high side, because somebody will eventually buy it.

All depends on area. That's scootch high for my area, just because of the year. If it was a 11-12-13 then yeah. I like to steer clear of vehicles that other people have modded/diy-worked-on though.

You’re in NY my guy.. this is California.

The fact people don’t think about this when discussing prices boggles my mind.

I feel like we should start an optional member registry, state, truck, packages, condition, miles, price, etc. Just to aggregate some data for buyers/sellers. Area makes a massive difference.

I'm MN fwiw, my 11 base access cab 2.7 with 97k was $16.7 at the dealer, $18 out the door after taxes etc. That's a pretty decent price around here, not amazing, but decently good. Obviously I bought from a dealer, so it's always going to be more than private sale. Was just real hard for me to find a clean truck around my area.

Take it out for a spin and offer 16.5 for it. See if you like it and have a mechanic look it over. If you want to make a little $$ back, sell the headlights and trade the hood, you get $600-$1000 for them together. You could probably get another $4-500 for the tonneau if it’s not your thing.

For reference, I sold an older 2nd gen in CA with similar miles for 14.5 and it was gone less than a day after posting.

    Edit: In CA

Doesnt make it right. I dont care if it's the Antarctic. A tacoma is a tacoma. I know they typically charge higher prices for used Tacos out there. But that's only because idiots continue to buy them for those prices

Fair enough. Yea, a 2013 as you described are going for 24k out here. California is crazy. :)

Well that's where carvana is starting to cut in, can start arbitrage trading almost. Most people aren't going to drive a few states away, let alone to another coast, to get a taco. Hell, with the exception of 1 car, I've driven 2 hours away to Minneapolis to buy my vehicles. On average I would say you can usually get something about $2k cheaper. I'll drive 4 hours to save $2k. My taco is included for that. Price in my city would have been 18+ easy before tax.

    “Idiots”.. lol

“I know they typically charge higher prices for used Tacos out there”

then why are you here acting like an ignorant idiot screaming about how you paid less for yours in NY? “Given it’s in CA.. yada yada” would’ve been more of a contribution than steering OP to think this is a terrible price because you found yours for much less in a state where Tacoma’s are likely far less popular.

California loves their Tacoma’s. They sell, and well. Thus the reason for the prices.

So many taxes here it makes me dizzy to think about it. It’s Saturday.. gonna go have a few drinks and dream I’m living in a state that doesn’t rape my bank account.

I’d pay the CA premium over buying a truck from NY even just to avoid a rusted frame. I too am shocked at what these go for out here. But that’s the market.

3 years ago I listed my 2006 with 90k at the time for 18k and got about 30 responses within a day begging to see it. Ended up keeping it but that really shocked me. So I’d say 3 years later, 3 years newer truck for this price is about what you’d expect.

It is still a 2009 and should not sell for more than $12,500 and that would be top dollar. Doesn't matter if it is California or New York. I would definitely offer a lot lower than the asking price NY or Cali the truck is still 11 years old and I am sure a dealer would not even think of offering that kind of cash for that truck if you were to trade it in on another one. KBB says 13,100-17,000 from a dealer and 12,600 from private party. Find a good medium and offer the guy that and if he doesn't bite then move on.

What you think is “right” has absolutely no place whatsoever in this discussion. Vehicle prices are set by the market. Local supply and demand are the drivers. There’s nothing else involved. Worth is established by the price most folks are willing to pay, and recently have.

I always encourage anyone considering a used car to punch in the specs on KBB and be sure to input the zip code. It provides a pretty good reference price range.

If you feel something is outrageously expensive then you can just remove yourself from the demand population and buy something else.
