That's a good looking tire! It looks like it would roll fast! I'll have to put that on the list.

They’ve become my go-to in the dryer months. The 2.6 is really wide, like the same width as maxxis 2.8. I like the profile and fit of the 2.5.
I used to run cushcore, but the casings on the WTB tough is burly and I haven’t needed to put them back in. They do suuuuuck to install though, definitely needed a compressor on the NOX, the Zipps went on fine though.

Sorry, can't offer much advice on the e-bike. But I will cheer you on for bike commuting. Before our office moved I commuted every day and without a doubt it was the best part of my day. You will love it!

Thanks for sharing. I will definitely pick one up because right now I literally search the internet for any part I can't remember the torque value on....

Check it. I don’t have them but the idea seems pretty solid if they are compatible with your rack.

Newbie in need of advice. I want to invest in a pair of mountain bikes for the wife and I. We are hardcore beginners but I want to purchase a pair of quality bikes. What kind of budget should I looking to be working with? What brands/models should I be looking into or stay away from? My strategy is to purchase a pair of very high quality used, rather than mediocre new, however, I don't know where to start as far as it comes to brand/model for a pair of newbies.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jake

Really depends on what kind of trails you guys are intending to ride and where you are located.

Trek, specialized, Giant, Cannondale are all going to have solid bikes in the entry level category/price range. Those will likely be the easiest to find used at a decent value. Norco, Rocky Mountain, Kona, maybe Santa Cruz are all good brands that might have some options for decent prices too but may be harder to find locally depending on where you are.

I’d say a starting point is $1k for a good hardtail. Full suspension will get up in price quickly and isn’t completely necessary in my opinion.

as far as resources I’d look on pinkbike.com, Facebook marketplace and Craigslist, probably in that order. I could go on but that’s pretty much sums it up.

Located in Iowa. Most of the trails we will ride are dirt stuff with a little bit of rock mixed in. Lots of flat and some hilly sections. There will be a lot of on-pavement riding mixed in there as well. We live in the middle of town and have access to a paved bike trail blocks from our house that I'm sure we'll be riding on often. Especially as we get our daughter more into riding her bike as well. She's just about 8.

Ignore the Jeep. Its what I traded in for my Taco. Now I'm looking at bed rail mounts.

Yeah you should be looking at a maybe 2017-2019, aluminum hardtail with hydraulic disks, likely 10 or 11 speed drivetrain, and a basic air fork. It’s not going to be super fancy but should perform well and last a while with proper maintenance. One thing I’d for sure look for is shimano or sram brakes for that price. You can always post links up in here when you find something you’re interested in.

I’m bored at work so I did some searching. I didn’t have any specific location in but you might be able to find something local to you. The first one is carbon so be that may or may not be a good thing. I also didn’t look at any specific size.

I have had the giant talon 1 and a giant talon 2. Both hardtail and decent bikes.

my son has a 2020 rockhopper hard tail and it rides smooth.

After riding the 2020 specialized stumpjumper ST I loved it and picked one up.

Full suspension is just awesome. Bike takes most of the beating instead of your body.

Whatever you get make sure it has a dropper post. I really like the 1x12 setup. It simplifies gear shifting.

you can usually find used trek fuels of recent years for under $1500. Giant full suspension bike with similar components starts at $1500.

I did ride the marlin 7 2020 and enjoyed it.

I'm tired of 1x12. When this cassette is worn I'm going back to 1x11. Can't afford Shimano 1x12 but Sram is no good - too fine of adjustments necessary for decent shifting

Pro tip: If you don't feel like buying a $28 chain whip tool, an old chain and a set of vicegrips does the job just fine.
