Best way to clean the mating surfaces then? About to start HG Replacement on my first gen, glad I saw this as I thought the Roloc was the way to go.

I’ve always used a razor blade & brass/stainless wire toothbrushes with gasket remover spray or brake cleaner. Takes a long time but the end result is a better than the messy abrasive method

Coming late to this post, but for those of future reference, Gasket Masters did a great YouTube step by step of replacing the HG on the 1GRFE.

How likely is it for the engine block decks need to be resurfaced? I have been losing coolant and have driven it a 2-3k miles without any overheating. I can do the head gaskets but it will suck if the block needs to be resurfaced as-well which means better to put a replacement motor. Would like to just do heads.

What is the max allowable warpage that is within spec?

I was told for the 2nd Gen 4.0 heads, its 0.1mm. Are you asking for a 3rd Gen motor?
    Are there any other symptoms?

I have an 05 Tundra with the 4.0, it is consuming coolant and missing when cold. I am thinking head gasket will be cheaper if I do them myself rather than buying a replacement motor. Resurfacing will drive up the cost and the engine has 152k miles, not sure what the better option is.

A lengthy procedure, but if you have the tools, time, and guide, not to hard.
