So apparently my local dealership is promoting a $199/36months/10,000miles per year lease on their leftover 2019 2wd sr5s. Is this happening anywhere else? This kind of interests me as it’s a steal but I want my next ride to be something different.

I would steer away from a lease if you think you might want to buy the vehicle at the end of the lease. I’ve leased 5 vehicles but I knew I was never going to purchase any of them so I pushed really hard to get a low monthly payment. I also never put money down you will be just throwing it away and it won’t change anything on the lease. The residuals on a lease is where you need to be careful if you want to buy at the end of a lease.

Leasing has its benefits. For someone (like me) who is self-employed it's an excellent tax write off. I usually sell most of my leased cars at the end of the term and make a few bucks to cover my next lease drive-off costs.

Yea I should have added in huge red letters take very good care of a lease and do not go over the miles. You screw up and go over the miles or damage the vehicle in any way they will try to suck all the money they can out of you.

Is 10k miles a year easily doable for you?

Very easily, even with road trips.

Most write offs are done in the first 3 years of ownership.

if you return the car with all the original parts on you should be ok. It would also be worth purchasing things like a “safe lease” for paint scratches, windshield chips and worn tires so they won’t charge you extra when you return it. The lease can be extremely fun because you can drive that car like you stole it .
For that Tacoma , no lame idea , but for something like a 3 series 2020 BMW it’s kind of fun for 3 years.

How do you sell it? Do you buy it outright at the end of the lease, then sell it?

I would stay away from a lease . That's a crappy lease term for a 3year 10k is not enough mileage Most lease u have to pay 25cents a mile plus wear and tear to get out the lease .More than likely u will go over that mileage . So in the long run u will end up owning more money not including the money u had to put down to get into the lease .Ya u can buy the lease warranty for damages but that's going to increase your payments. That's how they get u with add on crap .These Tacoma's hold there value really well your better off in a purchase .Ya u pay more in payments but after 3 years u will build equity in the truck .Then u can use that money towards a new vehicle if u decide to buy something else after 3 years .

The equity is a plus. This one is still worth like 12k or so.

No. I find a buyer then he/she either finance it trough their bank (in this case their bank takes care of the transfer) or we go to their bank where they buy a money order for the payoff of the vehicle made out to the leasing company, and give me the difference in cash or a separate money order. I then give them a bill of sale and instruct my leasing company to mail a title to the new owner. Done.

I don’t see anything similar on my local dealer sites. Probably just a advertising ploy to get you into the showroom. I have a local Ram dealer that always offers $99 leases on Rams. Right....

Just be careful in your due diligence, know ALL of the numbers, the vehicle and your needs.

There are some interesting points of view in this thread as always is with leasing threads. Leasing is great if it fits your needs. I posted in another lease thread “Why would anyone actually want to buy a vehicle today”. Go through this site or any other vehicle site and see the problems people have, especially the ones that seem to creep up the day after warranty expires. No thank you!

My personal thoughts and advice on leasing are simple. Can you afford to buy it? I don’t mean squeezing by bagging lunch and skipping take-out, I mean, go buy it today and the monthly buy payment means little to your budget. If that’s the case and the parameters of leasing fits your needs, it’s worth entertaining but only if you plan to lease again and again. If you’re simply trying to keep your monthly lease payment within your budget with the possibility of buying at the end of the lease, you need to re-evaluate and buy a cheaper vehicle.
