Lease with positive equity?!

my wife and I have a 2016 grand Cherokee overland that we are thinking of dumping. For the sake of round numbers, we have about 15k in equity on it. We are thinking of leasing something in the 30-35k range. Most leases have a down payment of 0-5k. How does that work when I have that much equity in my trade in?

I called about a Subaru Forester premium today and they said they don’t encounter this situation often. Any help appreciated.

 

I had 16k equity when I traded in my 2008 Tacoma on my 2014. I needed 4k of that equity to pay off a loan. The dealer just wrote me a check. I don’t see why they couldn’t do that on lease.

 

Do You think I could put 5k down and get a check for the 10?

 

Depends on the dealer. Tell them that’s the only way you’ll make the deal.
