going crazy ready through all the post. Some seem to say 2000 has 8 ports and some say 4? I have a 98 with a 2.7 looking to buy a 2000 wrecked truck for the engine. Will this longblock work in my 98' ?

2000 was a transition year in the design of the tacoma. Judging from the parts on rockauto it seems like they had 8 ports or 4 ports.

Looks like a "california" truck is a 4 port and a "federal" is an 8 port

1998 is definitely an 8 port. So you need to look for a 2000 that meets federal standards not california. Should be able to check by reading the sticker on the door jamb of the donor truck. Or just looking at the intake manifold.

I also have a 98 8 port. I just got a used engine which I believe is a four port. Can I swap in the four port or will I have problems with the computer, wiring, etc. also, I’m in California so smog is an issue. Thanks

I THINK a guy could do some parts flip flopping and make the swap work but have not attempted. Back in the summer when I was afraid I purchased a 4 port I done as much digging as possible think I was going to have to try and I felt like I was going to be able to make the swap work. But when I drove and picked up the 2000 model it ended up being a 8 port
