I guess I definitely don't have anything to worry about with the Tacoma when I get back from Ireland!

I try to give my truck a break in the Summer so it sits for a week or 2 with no issues.

    Here's a flashback story...

I was first introduced to Harry Potter in 1998 or 1999; My Grandma bought me Chamber of Secrets first, and then my mom said that was second book and bought me Sorcerer's Stone. I probably could have read the books myself, but they were bigger than any book I'd ever read in my entire life (I was 9), so my mom read me the first three. She would always read the books to me at night right before bed. The last one she read me was The Prisoner of Azkaban. My parents did not like to overindulge me, so they didn't buy me toys and video games whenever; However, they were always happy to buy me books...

The fourth Harry Potter book, The Goblet of Fire, was released four days after we moved to Oak Harbor, Washington; I took a trip with my mom to see family in California not long after we moved there, and I saw the fourth book at a store in Sea-Tac Airport if I remember correctly. I immediately wanted it to read on the plane, but it was hardcover and my mom refused to buy it because like just about everything else in an airport it was overpriced. She bought me a whole slew of car magazines that came in cheaper than the HP book, and I eventually did get The Goblet of Fire later that summer. This was the very first HP book that I read by myself!

Sorcerer's Stone was released in 1997, Chamber of Secrets was released in 1998, Prisoner of Azkaban was released in 1999, and Goblet of Fire was released in 2000; So, the first two books were already out by the time I developed an interest in the series, and the third one came out that same year. The first four books were released at a rate of a book per year, with the fourth being released about two months before I started sixth grade, so I was a bit pissed when the fifth book (Order of the Phoenix) was not released until almost three years after the fourth one! I hadn't even started sixth grade when the fourth book came out, and I was just a summer vacation away from starting high school when the fifth book came out! That's a long-ass time to wait! We were living in North Virginia at the time The Order of Phoenix was released in July 2003. The fifth book was released in July 2005, right around the time we moved back to Pennsylvania. My parents bought me both books!

The sixth book was The Half-Blood Prince, and like I said my mom would put up a fuss when I asked for Grand Theft Auto for Christmas or tried to buy any M-rated video game with my own money, but she had no problem buying me books.

The final book in the series, The Deathly Hallows, was released in the summer of 2007; I read it about halfway through before growing bored with it for some reason. The movie adaptation of Order of the Phoenix came out that same year, and I know I saw it in theaters but I forget who with...

In 2014-2015, I developed a renewed interest in Harry Potter, but unfortunately most of my books were packed away. Luckily, my aunt was an avid Harry Potter fan too and let me borrow hers. It may have been 2013-2014; All I know is that we were still living in the Furlong townhouse at the time, but it was after I got my driver's license, which would put it anywhere between May 2011 and March 2016...

I still had The Deathly Hallows in my immediate possession, and thus did not have to borrow it from my aunt; I may have read the final book before rereading the first six!

From probably 5th grade through 8th grade, I loved reading Hardy Boys mysteries, and the I kinda grew out of those. Before that, it was The Boxcar Children, which I started reading in 2nd grade and read all the way through 5th grade. I am also a fan of Stephen King, John Grisham, and Michael Crichton, all three of which I started reading in 10th or 11th grade and still read to this day.

We were living in Oak Harbor when it was announced that Daniel Radcliffe would be play Harry Potter; I'd never heard of him, nor had I heard of the boy and girl chosen to play Ron and Hermione, respectively (Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, the latter of which I had a crush on for quite some time)...

Harry Potter was immensely popular in my middle school, and all of the 7th grade classes got to go on a field trip to see the film adaptation of The Sorcerer's Stone at the local 3-screen movie theater! It was so close that we actually walked from school to the movie theater! One of my friends got driven by a teacher because he had sprained his ankle fairly recently. The mighty internet says that the first movie was released on November 16th, 2001; That would have been about two weeks before Thanksgiving, and I highly doubt we saw it on opening day...

I do remember for sure seeing it in November, but I'm pretty sure it was in the middle of the week, so we probably saw it right before Thanksgiving Break started. I forget whether students paid for the tickets or not, but either way, this was not just a free trip to the movies; I forget exactly what the assignment was, but everyone who went to see the movie had to complete an assignment after seeing it.

Oak Harbor was one of my least favorite places to live as a kid; Being on an island, it was quite isolated!

There was a Wal-Mart, a really nice Albertsons grocery store, a Starbucks, a Blockbuster Video, four car dealers (Chevy, Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep, and Ford, plus a Buy Here Pay Here place), numerous restaurants, a YMCA, and even a drive-in movie theater with an arcade and go-karts (in addition to the 3-screen place), but you had to drive off the island to Mount Vernon if you wanted to go to the mall or a Best Buy! Most of the time, we were lucky enough see the movies we liked at the 3-screen place in Oak Harbor; The only movie I ever saw at the drive-in was that awful Rocky and Bullwinkle movie. Unfortunately, the small local theater did not always play the movies I wanted to see, and we had to drive forty minutes to Mount Vernon. There was also a single-screen theater on the Navy base where I saw at least two movies (102 Dalmatians and Dinosaur) with my mom. As I mentioned last weekend, we also had to drive two hours to Seattle for the car show!

On top of that, it rarely got above 75 degrees in Oak Harbor during the summer and the school system wasn't that great...

You're supposed to clean the TB and MAF at least every 100k miles. I do mine when replacing spark plugs.

This was just on TV, guy spent 45K shoehorning a Big Block in it, sounds like he said it's been in the family since new in 1975.

That is what it was, wasn't really paying attention but snapped a quick pic when I noticed it and the guy said something about keeping it in the family.

I do clean the throttle body and MAF regularly. Far sooner than 100,000 miles but I have never taken the throttle body off the engine and given it a real good cleaning. The truck runs so good I'm afraid to try to get in there and "fix what really isn't broken". I've just run Sea Foam through the brake vacuum line in the past.

Why anybody would put a Chevy motor in a Rolls-Royce is beyond me...

You know me; I believe that with the exception of modern stereo systems (and electric radiator fans on older models), older Rolls-Royce and Bentley automobiles should be left stock! Also, while I detest the installation of any engine other than a Rolls-Royce engine in one of these cars, it would not be terribly difficult to install a GM engine (even a big block) in one; This era of Rolls-Royce used the GM TH400 3-speed automatic, so it would not be hard getting the transmission to work with the engine. On top of that, the SY cars used a pretty sizeable 6.75L V8 engine so getting a big block to fit wouldn't be terribly difficult either...

That said, I am a purist when it comes to Rolls-Royce and Bentley motorcars, and while I respect the people who did the conversion for their skills, I would NEVER do this to such a fine vehicle. It would be kind of like installing a Rolls-Royce V8 in a 1970 Chevelle SS!

    Cry...

Trust me, you want to cry...

Rolls-Royce and Bentley vehicles were designed to be the finest motorcars in the world, with no needs for improvement after the fact; Of course, if I owned a correct 1975 Silver Shadow, it is inevitable that I would install a modern stereo system with Bluetooth. However, I would install it discreetly and tastefully so as not to ruin the originality of the car. Retrofitting the air-conditioning system in any Rolls-Royce or Bentley from prior to 1994 to R134a would also likely be required, and in certain older models (mostly pre-1966), adding an electric radiator fan would be advised if the car is driven regularly.

All Rolls-Royce and Bentley models prior to the SY cars introduced in 1966 had 4-wheel drum brakes; The coachbuilt Phantom limousines, which were in production until 1992, had 4-wheel drum brakes and a carburetor until the end of production. The typical American car enthusiast would immediately want the 4-wheel drums replaced with 4-wheel disc or, at a minimum, front disc...

This would be a mistake! Rolls-Royce and Bentley motorcars had the best brakes one could get on a passenger vehicle from the very beginning; It should be noted that, to this day, any vehicle with air brakes has drum brakes...

I talked to the owner of a Peterbilt 379 dump truck a few weeks ago, and he said he replaces the brakes every 70K miles; With a Rolls-Royce, it would vary depending on driving conditions and driver habits, but I would see no reason that a carefully-driven Silver Cloud couldn't get in excess of 30K miles out of a set of brakes...

I seem to remember someone I know who is a Rolls-Royce expert telling me that the brakes in these cars should be inspected for wear every 20K miles or so; This same individual also informed me that replacing the drum brakes with disc brakes would ruin the feel of the car, essentially...

Acceptable "modern modifications" for an older Rolls-Royce in my opinion, aside from a modern stereo system, would be the aforementioned radiator fan, as well as a modern and more efficient A/C compressor. One thing that drives me utterly nuts is when owners replace the beautiful factory steering wheels with wooden Nardi wheels!
