Those things practically build themselves! As long as it’s not free beer day you should be fine with a Canuck Rav.

Direct jobs are people that get a check from Toyota.
Indirect jobs are jobs that get a check from one of the suppliers.
    It ain't rocket science.

I can tell what posters have absolutely zero knowledge of how manufacturing actually works. They usually work in manufacturing.

After touring the Chevy Plant in Indiana, the Nissan Plant in Tennessee, and the Corvette Plant in Kentucky and seeing the thousands of Americans making a decent living, I can’t just say “oh well” or make an excuse about other un related things. American made is important to me, but only because I’ve been to countless factories and seen the Environmental, employment, and patriotic benefits of making stuff here. I’ve also been to towns that collapsed after a factory was outsourced and all the savings went to a Millionaire and not passed onto the consumer with a lower price.

    Working on it ...
I hear you man. I used to be 100% all in pro buy American cars keep American working. Everything I owned was a GM. Go all way back to my father and growing up. At one point between my kids and my wife and I we had six American cars. One a Dodge and five GM’s. But then it almost as if the American car manufacturing was forcing me to go in another direction. The products became crap and and Customer Service became even worse.

The Capper was my son had a Chevy cavalier. The thing had just over 50,000 miles on it. It had a 5 year 60,000 mile warranty on certain items. The catalytic converter and something else went on it. I brought it to the dealer and even though it was over 7000 miles under the mileage they gave me the finger saying was out of warranty by 45 days. To fix the thing was well over $1000. They pretty much just laughed at me. I wrote to GM and offered to pay labor if they covered parts under the situation. They too were worthless. No compromise, no nothing. 45 freaking days. The odd thing was it all happened probably 45 days earlier just took that long to get a dealer appointment etc.

That was the beginning of my F-you to GM. After that event in my head I start going back to all the fingers the GM has been giving me over the years and I just didn’t recognize them at the time.

I am down to my 2000 Corvette in my 1969 Camaro. Everything else in my family as unfortunate as it is to say is for the most part Japanese. 2012 Ford escape that my son bought five years ago is the loan exception.

Fortunately, they still make the 2.7 in Japan I believe. And I'll say this, whether by design or not, all of my prior Honda vehicles built in Japan were of higher quality/fit-and-finish than any of the Honda vehicles I owned that were made in the US. A US based factory that should be operating under Honda's strict manufacturing guidelines, but something was amiss for sure.

Again, aren't most 3rd gen Tacomas assembled in Mexico anyways? And, according to the press release, it seems like they're just shifting the Texas plant's production to different vehicles, so it's not like anyones' losing their jobs over this, right? I don't get why this bothers some people so much.

Toyota builds a lot of cars in the usa. I would consider any of them. Won’t buy a Mexican made car.

Toyota is going down the same rabbit hole that Ford/Chev has with creating third world "parts bins" for trucks with less and less reliability the more parts assemblies they farm out the more trouble the vehicle has. You are seeing Toyota reliability become a myth slowly but surely. For example the Hino mfg rear axle assembly, with over 50% of Tacomas having the rear end gear whine, the list goes on and on, seems there is something new every day not good about current mfg of Tacomas. Mismatched engine/trans with no low end power, etc. I been looking to buy a new truck for quite some time now, and have come to the conclusion I better buy a new Tundra TRD Pro 6.7 ft bed, before they screw that one up too. I am a long time Tacoma owner, way back to 1979 4x4, 82 4x4, 88 4x4, 92 2wd pu, 2006 Tacoma OR Access cab. Was recently in the F150 Forums, and wow, Ford has a mess going with the 2018 and up 5.0L V8, excessive oil burning, only thing changed since the reliable 2017 5.0L was the new type blocks with plasma cylinder wall construction. Makes it hard as heck to decide what new truck to buy. There is a massive list of 5.0L owners mad as heck after paying 50-60K and burning 1 qt in 1,000 miles.

So this line of thinking only applies to automobiles for you? What about your Television? Computer? Phone? Clothes? How about the majority of the fruits & vegetables in the US during the winter. I mean I get it, but I also don't get it. It would be nice if everything was made in the U.S., but I feel like that train left a long time ago... P.S. I wish Tacomas were manufactured in Japan if I were being honest!

    This thread is still going?!

I figured everyone would have traded in their Tacoma by now. Just crawl to the Walmart on a raw steel chassis out of a '72 Buick Riviera, Flintstone-style; like a real American.
