    So no actual trails out there? I would like to find some "easy" trails that wouldn't make me cringe without sliders on my new truck lol.

    NICE!

    Here are the trail maps of the area:

    https://www.co.hood-river.or.us/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={347F014A-9B0C-412A-92C5-226C780A48D3}

    I remember there being fairly easy trails. My fiance is telling me they weren't really 4x4 trails. Looks like trails on the map to me. Been long enough I am not certain who is right.

    One thing I am sure of, is I had fun in the TJ when I was there.

    Oh, just saw the trails are closed per this link.

    https://www.riderplanet-usa.com/atv/trails/info/oregon_14453/ride_2a58.htm

    Not sure what they mean exactly by "adjacent trails". I will give them a call tomorrow and see. May have to pick a new location.

    Right under the video there is an announcement dated Feb 2020. Though everywhere else it seems to indicate it's open. A bit confusing. Clear it up with a phone call I'm sure.

    From that it appears most of the area is open. Great!

    Yes you can, all are welcome!

    So far here are people who are / may be coming this meet up.

    @TacoTim85
    @ST77
    @lightnfast
    @daleclough
    Myself

    I have 3 GMRS radios, and basic recovery gear. Would really help if anyone else was able to bring more handheld GMRS radios. This is the kit I bought, and very happy with:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CTBHCWS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    3 pack with everything you need for $100. A 2 pack is $70.

    So we are all on the same page. I have been out here before, but it's been a few years since I was last out. It would be hard to get lost out here, but I am not super familiar with the area.
    Last time @TacoTim85 and myself wandered around Browns camp area and explored. Don't want anyone expecting a organized hard core off road meet up. This is much more noob friendly and I really have no idea what I am doing as far organizing something like this goes.

    I plan on having regular meet ups with all who want to join. Open to anything in the general area around Portland for future runs. If you know a good spot, I would love to learn new ones.

    Details:

    Sunday March 1st
    11 AM Meet up time
    Meeting at Walmart parking lot (trail head is about 3 miles from there)
    Walmart, 2700 Wasco St, Hood River, OR 97031

    Oregon requires an ATV permit. They are $10.50. Oregon recognizes Washington permits. You can buy one online if you need it:
    https://www.oregon.gov/oprd/ATV/Pages/ATV-permits.aspx

    If you buy it online, you will receive a temporary permit in the form of a PDF file that you can print out, or save to your smartphone. It is good for 14 days.

    With this many people potentially coming, it would be best if you got that taken care of before the day. I have never seen anyone be checked for a permit, and I have even spoken to sheriffs while out when not displaying mine without problem. However it's cheap, and funds the trails (About $75 of fuel taxes are applied to every sticker purchased in Oregon. These funds are put back on the ground to keep your riding areas open and in good condition) Highly recommend everyone have one or the WA equivalent.

    It is my understanding that Oregon requires a fire extinguisher every off road vehicle. I cannot actually find a link to this, so I may be mistaken. Never been checked for one. It is a very good idea to have one though, vehicle fires are serious business. I recommend a dry chemical type. Be sure it is ABC.

    Current plan. Meet at Walmart and everyone can meet one another.
    Head out to trail head
    Air down (not required but highly recommended)
    Go explore

    I have a Baofeng 2 way, just need the freqeuncy and I'm good to go. I have some light recovery gear. I will try to grab an ABC, no promises though. Permit is all set. I have GAIA app as well for off-road nav.

    Is this kid-friendly?

    I just programed my Baofeng UV-5R last night with all the GMRS frequencies. Taking my HAM test this Saturday.

    Here is a chart of them:

    https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/FRS/GMRS_combined_channel_chart

    Legally the Baofeng is not type permitted to transmit on any GMRS channel, however it is capable of doing so. Legal to listen however. If you don't want to program them all, do channels 20-22. That way we have some options.

    Yeah, don't see any reason why it wouldn't be kid friendly. I don't have a kids so that's your call.

    Subscribed. Been looking for new places to explore. Stock suspension 2019 TRD OR. Spent some time riding around the hills east of Hood River recently. Found some nice viewpoints. Been out around Gifford Pinchot a bit. Haven't been out to Tillamook or the actual OHV areas yet.

    Welcome! That rack looks great.

    I have never been to Gifford Pinchot. Browns camp area is fun. There's a lot more in the vicinity to explore. I have only scratched the surface personally. The PNW is a great place for getting out there and exploring.

    We are going out this Sunday to Post Canyon right outside of Hood River if you want to join us.

    Went up towards Larch Mountain (Clark Co) yesterday on a whim to look around. I didnt find nearly as much snow at lower elevations as I expected.

    What I did find: an old red VW bug and a silver sedan in the middle of the paved road around a blind corner, crashed into each other! They did not look happy, but were ok.

    When I got back home I heard a tire hissing on my truck and noticed I had somehow punctured the driver's rear near the middle of the tread...
    So I visited the nearby Les Schwab and they patched it right up, quick and no charge!

    Tested out the new portable compressor after I got home. Filled my stock tire from 18 psi to 34 psi in about 1:45 sec. Not bad for a $70 compressor. :thumbsup:

    So much for the "kevlar" on the stock tires. That's a bit slower than I expected on the 88p. Still for the price it's hard to argue with.

    Find any good spots?
