Well, it’s been over a decade and we’re still here so this wasn’t life threatening

    $25 and works perfect.

The hardest part is getting the torx bolt lose, use a big breaker bar and go slow, an impact will strip the head.

So you’re worried about them bringing the tailgate down, not taking the tailgate?

Pop n lock is a POS...very flimsy. It's called Pop n lock because someday it will pop off when you pull on it.

There isn't a key hole in the second gen's tailgate handle?

Me too. Have had the hose clamp mod since brand new. I used the type of hose clamps that require a special tool. Can't use a screw driver to take them off.

I think he’s saying he wants to replace it, and that’s the only option he wants.

That’s fine, I was just throwing another option in there.

Been running one for about 10 years, works fine. You wire it into your door locks, so use your fob to lock/unlock.

Only issue I had was that I think the annual rust proofing I do killed one. Got it replaced under warranty and installed the replacement inside a plastic bag so the rust proof spray wouldn't short out the solenoid. That was about 8 years ago and with annual rust proofing since then, no issues. Works fine.

Well how can they take the tailgate when there's a canopy locked and a tailgate locked shut

I purchased the more expensive one with the lifetime warranty. The link above has a list of the different types they sell. This set up uses the stock handle, so there is no key. The solenoid is used to position a obstacle that prevents the handle from opening the latch. Does its job.
