You can always add more supports from slider to frame if you are really worried

Mine are welded on. I bent my sliders not my frame.

 

You don’t realize how nasty your helmet covers are until you get new ones.

 

I just went to lowes and saw a co tractor pack of 25 1/2 inch or 5/8 bolts for 50 bucks

My usual go to hardware store thats been around since like the 40s wanted like 3 bucks each bolt

 

This... does anyone make a service like dollar shave club that you sign up for and they give you consumables on a schedule

 

Have a tractor supply co near you? They sell by the pound.

Boltdepot.com is a decent source too if you need a quantity of stuff

 

That's where I get mine, TSC. You can't beat their price on bolts/nuts if they have what you need.

If he’s buying grade 8 it’s easy to pay $2 per bolt/washers/nut setup

 

Tractor Supply has a lot of grade 8's by the pound as well

 

nice tsc’s aren’t too popular in SoCal but we just got one in town, I’ll have to check it out. For stuff I use a lot of I order from Fastenal or McMaster Carr. But I also have a really well stocked hardware store. So I support them when not buying in bulk. It’s more value able to have the stuff local available when I pinch when most of your work is custom stuff. The local Lowe’s and Home Depot have almost stopped carrying grade 8 in my area and that’s mostly what I use

 

Little addition on some 4” pipe today. It’ll work from an ole guy who learned to weld on a farm.

 

I forget time flies I doubt I bought Hardware for 10 years When I filled all bolt bins up .

But for odd sizes from Toyota

Still needs bracing on the legs, a mount for a vice, and some cross bracing and a top and....paint...and...this isn't going to be done this weekend, is it?

I think the concept is gonna work though.

 

We have the same drill and I was working on my updated workbench today too. Can’t be a welder with a carpenter’s workbench.

The new bench is a much more efficient use of space and it’s lighter to roll around. I also changed from 4 swivel casters to only 2 so now I can steer the damned thing. There are a couple low spots in my garage and the 4 swivels let the bench move a little if it wasn’t placed perfectly.

 

Nice! I grew up with wooden benches and I know what you mean - ours never moved. This is my first attempt at a steel one. I was thinking about wheels, but my garage has a drain in the middle so everything is sloped and there isn't a flat spot to be found, so wheels seem like they may be hazardous. I can always cut the legs shorter and throw wheels on later though.

Are those the wheels from harbor freight? I threw a set on my welder cart and have been pleased with them, they're better than anything i found at home depot.

 

What do you mean by yucky? Post some pics. If you are welding sliders on, build a good goopy puddle up on the thick plate and drag it over pretty quick onto the thin frame, dont spend alot of time on the frame and go back to the thicker metal. Welding on the frame does suck and takes some practice, .035 flux core is all I use unless it's the sheet metal on the body then its .030. Like others have said you are either doing a vertical weld, which is tricky, or overhead which is even trickier.

I laugh when people give you speeches on how you need a 220v machine to weld on these trucks, you can blow holes easily through the frame with a 115v machine.
