Decided I am going to swap my steel wheels for oem aluminum. Wondering what people do about tpms when doing this swap?

You will need new tpms, the factory ones from steel wheels will not work on aluminum, and vise versa.

You can use the steel wheel TPMS in aluminum by rotating them around but they will supposedly be destroyed if the tire goes completely flat.

I just pulled regular non-TPMS valvestems into my alum wheels after seeing how worthless the factory TPMS is. Downside is looking at the tire light on the dash lit up. Doesn't really bother me but some have a problem with it.

My 2005 Tundra tire indicator is conveniently located in the lower right corner of the display panel - a small square of electrical tape hides it nicely.

Try turning the sensor 180 degrees. When I was on the FJ forum, guys would run into this issue. Apparently they will install properly if you turn them around, and it worked going from steel to aluminum and vice versa. I've heard that our trucks are only one way swappable, but I don't know from what to what. Others have said that it doesn't matter, and they're swappable both ways.

When I ordered new wheels & tires from discount tire, so when it came time to mount & balance, I told them to swap the tpms sensors over. I think they have a tool to reset them.

Itm tpms on Amazon go for $109 for 4 and come already programmed. Still need to enter IDs into ECU though.
