Electrical issues dash, FIXED

Anyone,

Im having random electrical power loss.

The dash lights, radio, heater, alarm, clock all loss power while driving for
2 to 5 seconds and then power comes back.

Dosen't effect the motor.

What could this be?

 

does the new alternator have anything to do with it?

This is going to be interesting as those loads are grounded through several different ground points.

Be simple if it was all one ground a Major ground loss would take out the ECM

You say Alarm I would look real close at that No telling just what it is tied into .

 

It was the neg battery cable to the battery post.

The clamp is as tight as it will go and its still loose,

Shim time

 

The fact the ECM did not stumble is interesting.

Then you might not have noticed .

 

Now that I think about I think it did a few times, but I thought it was something else

 

Time to shop around for some real battery terminal clamps:

fun fact: If you pull out the bolt through the OEM clamp and cut off the part that goes around the post, you can easily connect the cables to the new clamps.

I was really happy when I figured it out.

Minor pothole: I'm not sure the diameter of that hole, but it matched up with the clamps I had laying around already. Not sure if the ones I linked on Amazon are the same.

 

I have had a set of military style terminals that have gone uninstalled for over a year because I've thought I would have to make custom cables and dreading it

 

I had no idea they made those!!! I cut mine off abd put some cheesy aftermarket clamp on there. DAMN

All better, I trimmed the OEM cable so that there was just the tab and drilled the wire tab holes out a bit and both OEM cables fit on the wing bolt section now.

 

I use these clamps on all my vehicles.

So much better
