I notice the tab pulled away on 1 side. Can you tack weld to keep the pieces together better?

Otherwise, you have made great improvements.

 

I could, but it’s a non issue since it really doesn’t affect anything being a little pulled away. I didn’t want to take the time to do it.

 

But, but it bothers me!

Just kidding, as long as you are aware there are techniques that reduce that issue.

Ok just what did you change to cause the improvement ??

 

they are made in China. I’ve used a pair for the last few years not the smoothest but overall worked well.

just bought this pair a month ago. Was having trouble finding a made in the USA set so I went with a set of welpers. They are made in Japan and very smooth.

 

they are tab-n-slot. I usually tack them on the back and weld the slot out first. Then flip them and do the fillet weld on the front side. That way they don’t pull on you

 

Nothing, I was just rusty. I haven’t welded anything in about a month.

 

Man I want one of those!! I never cut sheets of plate that large but I could see myself making excuses to do so if I had one of those saws!!

 

Yeah I definitely should have done that After going and looking at them. They’re all pulled out a little \_____/ but hey, at least now the cams will fit with ease.

 

The other thing I like about doing the back first is it gives you a quick few warm up passes to get into your rhythm and puts a little heat into the part.

 

I acquired this after I made a skid plate that I cut out with an angle grinder. Felt like I had arthritis in my hands for a month. Lol

 

Cut these pieces out to make some bomb proof hilift bed mounts.

 

Dunno how you’re planning on securing it but I use these 1/2” wing nuts from McMaster Carr that work wonderfully.

 

I actually have some SS wingnuts, but I found these pimped out knobs I wanted to try out.

 

Are those studs stainless? To anyone out there is it possible to tack stainless bolt heads to the mild steel plates in the back of my mounts? I know it'll ruin the stainless properties if it is done, but can it be done?

 

I’ve had similar ones on some other mounts I had and the damn things cracked after awhile. Granted they were exposed to the sun, but it was only a couple months. I hope yours have a better fate because I cut my hand on those fuckers lol

 

Ah shit. I'll just go back to the wingnuts if they suck like that.
