5.29 may not be overkill to some but when I’m doing 75 mph down highway I don’t want to be at such high rpm. There’s got to be an in between balance somewhere that allows 6th gear to be used again yet still not be at a higher rpm than I am now at 75 in 5th gear.

Oh for sure it is just a guide, I don't know if it is accurate for any Tacoma or not, weight, transmission gearing and tire size all have a big affect on diff gearing.
I used the chart and got the 4.30 diffs out of a 4Runner for mine and if I regear I will for sure go 5.29 just for the extra pulling power offroad

I get what your saying. Just know a few guys that paid alot to go 4.88 then they wernt happy with them so they paid again to go 5.29. But they wernt tuned either, im really looking forward to seeing how this tune changes my truck.

    No 1st gen
You can talk with @TacoAlaMode he put 4.30 in his 2nd gen on 33s, steel bumpers, skid plates, sliders, bed rack and RTT. I'm not sure how he feels about them.
But like @tweakit88 said 3rd gens may be different.
With my 4.30 the RPMs and gas milage stayed the same for me but so did the power, which isn't a bad thing but If I regear I will be going to 5.29s just for more low end power.

Another thing to consider is if you have an automatic trans and get too high of a gearing you will overheat if you offroad.

Dude the ride around the shop was embarrassing enough. One of the guys there hopped on one with me, and took me to all different terrains around the shop he knew about to try it out, and it was hilarious watching me do basic things I’m sure.
