I was rebuilding a 2014 Tacoma DoubleCab seriously domaged , The 2 side curtain are blowed , the estimated of repair recommends replacing two curtain airbag, the airbag sensor assembly module, the computer occupant detection, and not the sensor assembly side airbag sensor, Iwant to know if it is an error or if it is not necessary to replace them, they cost 200 $each and do not want to change them if it is not necessary .

The bodywork is completely repaired and it remains for me that has connect new curtain.Thank

Did you ever figure this out? I have a 2015 that has the driver side air bag blown and not sure if I need to replace the sensor

Seriously?! You talking about something that can save your life. Don’t be a cheap ass!! Be safe or possibly dead. Your choice.

I've never had to change a curtain air bag. I've done lots of steering wheel and passenger bags. Ive never had to change the sensors. I don't have a real answer when it comes to side curtain bags.

The only way to really know is after you get the SRS ECU reset and you plug everything back in. If you got no dash light, you know it's functional.

May be able to be reused. But even the insurance companies won’t take the chance. When an airbag goes off, even they require that associated sensor/s be replaced. Replace it and know you have a good working sensor that’s works.

    you are right.

That's why the truck most likely now has a salvage title. Insurance companies have no say what is required. You only get a better rate with functioning safety equipment.

FYI: Insurance companies don't inspect rebuilt vehicles. You have to have it done by the sheriff or the State Police. It is in your interest to have all safety features functional.

For future reference, its rare that any deployed SRS ECU will ever work again. Most retain a code and require replacement.

As mentioned its a precaution, but usually its a capacitor issue once used.

If you don't have the ECU reset, you are correct, but you will also the dash light on and non of the bags will work.

There is no reason the SRS ecu won't function again if its reset to factory. I'ts just computer and computers can be reflashed.

Just to add, although a sensor "may" be re-used. If it were the one to trigger, they are 1-time use parts, cannot be re-used, unless you would like to set the bag(s) off again, then go ahead.

Then why are the replaced bags in my present truck not deployed?

    Lol

    Exactly.

No man someone else drug it up because they needed some help, which you did. Great advice, you obviously have done what you wrote. Me too, hundreds of times - for insurance companies.
