I still don't know what the front actuator does but I repaired my transfer case actuator by removing and disassembling it with a ten millimeter socket and Phillips screwdriver. I chiped away some rust from the inside contacts and sanded it smooth and finally greased it with lithium grease and reassemble it and it worked fine. Will somebody tell me what the front one is for please? I don't have locking rear differential on my SR5, is it supposed to have front locker? If so mine is not locking but I hear it actuator front and rear when I engaged four-wheel drive. And to answer somebody else's question, you don't lose any oil when removing the transfer case actuator. You don't even have to remove the whole actuator, I found out later I could have the whole thing with just a Phillips screwdriver but would have need clean the rusted contacts under the truck rather than on a workbench. Probably would have been a little bit easier that way anyhow. Good luck I hope I hope it helps.
