I will, but I’m 99% sure that it does require splitting the tractor which is why I haven’t done it yet. It’s on my list for this year, finally. I’d heard there was a regular style seal replacement, I was hoping that to be true!!

Mine did not seal back up, I was hoping it would with use but no such luck. If I pull the pan off I’m going to change up the oiling system while I’m in there. Stock picks up the oil, filters it, drops it back in the pan. Kinda strange.

Ive got a set of factory service manuals for it, I’ll have to look at what’s involved to get it done this year. Then maybe next year do an in frame kit on it, if it’s not the valve seals leaking oil into the combustion chambers. (Mostly on #1 and #4). Probably do a leak down test first to see where I’m losing pressure which should help locate the oil ingress.

This machine does have power steering, too. Works very well after replacing the large o-ring on the reservoir and the small seal on the pump snout. Had to sand the seal down and press it in further to get it out of the groove it wore into the pump’s drive shaft.

 

A little welding and your good to go!

 

I did one like that years ago, wasn’t so lucky though. I was backing up and ran over the wheel and had to replace it

It should be that for me too, but they want to have a smaller work force. So if you throw enough money at me I will leave.

Looks, as others have said, like it could use a bit more bracing back there. Lots of leverage acting on that tail wheel sticking way out there.

I got a brush hog free from a friend of mine, it’s gotta weigh 800#, it’s huge, heavy, built like a tank, but also booger welded back together. It’s probably from the 50s or 60s. When I got it, the castle nuts on the blades were held in place with bent rusty nails. I smoothed out the blades with my grinder, put a blunt edge on them and filled up the gearbox. Works great, but I prefer a slip clutch to the sheer pin setup it came with. Can’t complain about the price, though!

Need to work on my bush hog, don’t know why Woods put sheet metal so far down on the back. Not good for when you back into stumps and rocks.
