You can literally just run a spare tire cover on it. You know those smiley face covers you see on the back of jeeps, just throw that on your spare.

Lock crusted up on me. No big deal just grabbed some bolt cutters and cut the lock off.

I replaced the factory spare with a wheel matching the other four and a padlock would no longer fit. Not wanting to go the cable route I got a Toyota spare tire lock, too.

I've been running a brinks one I got from Walmart that has a plastic case around it for a few years now. I live in Colorado and I haven't had any issues yet. Just removed it 2 weeks ago to install my BAMF hangers. Only thing that sucks is you have to climb under there to unlock it but I'm not worried about some one stealing my spare. I did it because I have a matching stock spare instead of the steel one.

Easy install. Unique pattern for each (like wheel lug locks), it comes with a code so that a replacement key can be ordered (do it now) from the mfr.
Extremely difficult to remove spare if you lose the key.
    Good stuff.

There is no law enforcement for misdemeanor theft in CA or NY. Too busy picking up $hit off the sidewalks and handing out drivers licenses and food stamps to illegals. Just saying... catch and release is working quite well as we can all see.

I’m interested in locking my full sized spare even though it’s on a steelie.

I might do a cable/combo or some kind of brass lock, not sure yet.

On a related topic, before going with that oem adapter I’m seeing a problem with that cheap-O crank handle.
The shop had to use it to put the spare in and it looked twisted. Then when I dropped the spare to bash down the ears and put it back up, I saw how cheap it was and worried if it’ll last.

Anyone find a better handle setup?
The one in the middle is where the lug wrench sits and you can see it’s twisted from just being used twice.

Don't have to crawl under to unlock and you can use the cable to drag the spare out.

That’s a good idea but I’ll be forced to remove my cool poser recovery loop!
.....which will contact some assholes car before my bumper.
