Just an update, after doing multiple tests and delving into it further I have found that it was a bad modem. The router was not the culprit, though I may still upgrade for better range, and faster wifi data speeds.

The modem was so fucked I disconnected the coax cable and the status light still said I had a great connection for the next hour or so. I moved the thing and all this metal flake particles poured out, so yeah, went and had it swapped for a new one. I haven't taken the dive in kicking the company provided one for my own but the new one has a solid stable connection.

I appreciate all the help everyone provided me and am still taking it into consideration for purchasing a new router.

Sure thing! Sounds like you're using a cable modem :) good luck, I have some suggestions for those as well but it sounds like you lease yours from your provider. Good luck and if ya need anything, just ask.

I used CNET reviews when making a purchase of something every 8-10 years. On their recommendation, I purchased a Asus RT-AC68U router last year. I bought it to replace my last Asus router.

Docsis 3.1 is a standard for cable Modems. Data over Cable Service Interface Specification. Nothing to do with a router.

Pair a 3.1 modem with netgear orbi or google wifi mesh and you might end up with migraines from such a strong signal lmao

I recommend the google one to a lot of people, really easy to setup and works well. I think if you're looking for something a little more robust these are super nice as well https://www.bestbuy.com/site/ubiqui...sh-wi-fi-system-white/5736902.p?skuId=5736902

I was excited to see ubiquiti roll out a consumer grade system. I run the standard commercial gear at home, I'm IT though, so....

When you say "compound", are you referring to different buildings?

I know this is an old thread, but am reviving it. I need to upgrade my system.

Yes, I live in the Bay Area so having a property larger than 10,000 sq ft is considered a compound. I have a puck in a detached ADU, shed, garage and the primary router in the main house. Google just release a new software update that increased speeds and range. It was quite significant because my ADU had the WEAK signal and now it is OKAY to GOOD.

    Thanks.

I'm trying to figure if this system will reach my shop. It's 200' from the house. I don't know if these have the distance to do that.

A quick follow up: (I believe) A lightening strike came in on my cable line, and knocked out my modem, router, and the Ethernet port on my motherboard. I ordered another Asus router (because these rock!), bought a Motorola modem at Best Buy, and then ordered a network card for my computer. After replacing all of these, my new PC was online (again).

Diagnosing the modem and router were easy...they were fried. After connecting the new modem to my PC, I still couldn't connect to the internet. I decided to plug the cable into my old PC, and it worked just fine. Thankfully a $10 network card worked, and I didn't have to replace the MOBO!!!!! I just built this PC last year, and didn't want to spend several hours and another $100+ to do that swap.

Because of the damage, I'm pretty sure this came in through the broadband cable line, and not through the electrical cable. I checked the televisions in the house, and all seem to be OK. I was watching my big TV when the lightening hit. The DVR did a quick reset, but immediately came back online.

Quick question for the camera techies here.

How long would a wireless camera like I've shown last plugged into an inverter with a 12 volt deep cycle battery? Obviously it would last the longest if it was only triggered to turn on via motion.

    Thanks in advance

Bad Crap. Netgear Nighthawk Wifi 6 mesh network from Costco. I bought it and have worse connections than when I had a single wireless router. Some devices work fine but others constantly lose connection. When you move around the house it gets worse. I have done every step to update any software on the system but it gets worse every day. Many others have returned them by now. I will myself.

I will replace it with a Wifi 5 mesh network from Linksys that is cheaper and not version 6 but is the most recommended mesh network.
