I'm going through the process of purchasing an 08 4x4 access cab 4cyl 5spd with 67,000 miles. All around truck is solid, drives great shifts through gears smooth. Only thing that worries me is this leak I found. Not sure what it could be/ if its something I should be worried about. Truck was serviced every 3-5k miles at local dealer plus clean Carfax. Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks Tacoma.jpg Tacoma 2.jpg

That rust!!! I would run and not worry about a little leak.

Downfall of living in upstate NY, mostly surface rust I plan on grinding down and using POR15 to clean it up.

How much are they asking? That's a bit of rust under there... Looks like the leak is between the trans and engine. But I'd have bigger concerns with that truck

They are asking $13,995. Heres more pics... the low mileage is what gets me. Hard to touch a used taco for under $15-17k with less than 100k miles and a rust free frame. Body is immaculate, rust free. Cant tell if its save able

Idk man. I got my RC for less than that and it has ZERO rust. It had 100k on it tho.

That frame has been coated and is more than likely hiding a lot still.
The leak looks like the rear main seal.
The seal isn’t bad but the trans comes out so a new clutch etc while your there.
The 08’s are about out of time for a new frame (12yrs).

    Id walk.

I agree with Dave mine had overspray from the Toyota crc hose job there also.

I agree, there's gotta be better examples out there. Sees like a lot considering the condition. I dont know what your timeframe is like, but why not search out of state?

There is a real nice 2009 Dclb with 51k or so original miles on it in the 2nd gen classifieds located in Long Island. Frame replacement good through 2021 but the guys states it should pass as it has minimal rust. That truck you posted pictures of, I would run like hell. My buddy just bought a Tacoma rusted like that and it is a nightmare to work on. Putting his lift on every bolt either broke, or we had to cut them out. I put my hand on the rear bumper and my thumb went right thought it.

Run.... so fast. I bet all the cash in my bank that frame will rot out in less than 2 years no matter what you do. The recall for that year is over also. So once it rots out you have now wasted 14k.

To your original question, are you sure there's a leak? Are you talking about that black stuff? Looks to me like someone tried to paint the underside black and over sprayed. If it's actually oil then I'd suspect a rear main seal on the engine.

BTW, I agree about the rust... But I'm often surprised by what you guys back east think is normal.
