that is where everyone’s leaks, that’s how you check there’s still oil in the crawl box. If it stops leaking that’s when you know you’re in trouble and have to add oil

meh. mines pretty much leak free. every time i seal and fill i let the ultra gray cure and sit for a few hours before adding any oil to the box. thing this helps a lot IMO

mines actually to the point that the dirt and extra rtv keeps mine sealed. Speaking of which, I should check to see my oil level again after draining and adding new oil.

they have a differently designed adapter plate. The Merlin one which farms it out to minchworm, which combined with low range, now sells all the same design. Back in the day before a crawl box was hip, the adapters weren’t as nice.

Yeah, I know the history. I also find it funny that a lot of people have no problem shitting all over TG about being inferior. Yet, they don't leak and I had my adapters in 2 weeks. 3 years of wheeling later I've yet to have a single issue with mine. lol

trail gear is like the harbor freight of truck parts, nobody likes to admit they use them but they get great reviews and they are always in stock, and in a lot of cases just as good or better than other names for the price.

the only issues i have had with my inchworm is that the double row bearing pooped out a ball bearing. replaced with the MRC bearing and its been great. when i seal mine, i put one adapter on at a time and let it cure before putting the next piece on and make sure that there isn't any stress on the mating surface and then finally adding oil way later. once i started doing that, i haven't had any issues with leaks

Same story here. Zero leaks or problems in 5 years. I don’t even let the RTV setup before I fill with oil anymore and it still doesn’t care.

A day but to be fair, I did not seal up that area from the outside. It's draining, I'll clean it all up and reseal it in the morning I guess.

Haaa! Like a dirt bike I guess

    :fistbump:

I'm concerned about that bolt though. I've not seen anyone elses leak from that bolt. Since that bolt is more or less worthless, I think I'll just clean it out really good and seal it up. Think some JB weld is a bad idea?

I'm thinking I'll just fill the whole thing up. That bolt grabs like 2 threads anyway.

Several people have convinced me that the bottom bolts aren't required. One of mine is missing because I didnt realize you had to drill out the threads on the bellhousing and thread it through the opposite way, and the other is bottomed out in the marlin adapter with 1/4" of the bolt showing.

Seal it up real nice and try not to think about it.

I put in the driver's side bolt and it felt like it was about the strip with a stubby wrench so I stopped. I've seen a few guys skip the bottom bolts so I decided not to drill out the passenger side and threaded a bolt in anyway for torque-shear tension. That one seems good.

I guess I'm a bit concerned that I went in too deep with the driver's side and that's why it's leaking. I was pretty annoyed that a $2k gearbox leaks like a stuck pig but I got a taste of that sweet, sweet low-low action earlier and my concerns just whisped away. RTV the shit out of everything and crawl on!
