OK, thanks, I need a MAS sensor for a 1996 & my brother said to see if the one of his (I thought) 1991 would fit it, he had to have meant a 2001. He's not here right now but if his is a 2001 are those 2 sensors interchangeable?

Before 1995.5 Toyota trucks were simply known as Toyota Pickups

It's common to see early 90s Pickups incorrectly called Tacomas in for sale ads, a lot of people don't realize they were only called pickups until the Tacoma came along.

It's not foolproof, but I would pull up that part from both years on rockauto.com and see if they're the same part number. They generally have a pretty darn good catalog.

It's possible, but you also have 3 different engine configurations to think about. 2.4L, 2.7L, and the 3.4L.

MAF's are relatively cheap ($50 at Rock auto), I don't see much of a reason to try and find one form a different year. If your brother has one sitting around for free, sure, see if it'll bolt up, but why not just buy the correct one?

That said, there is also MAF cleaner you can buy at the auto parts store. Try that before spending the money or effort on replacing it.

They didn't advertise them as that in the US though did they? I thought they just advertised them as pickups

If you guys both have the 3.4l then it should be the same MAF sensor. The 4cyl engines use a different one though and I'm not sure if that one changed over the years. But when I pull up a mass airflow sensor for my truck (3.4l v6) on the dealer website it says it fits 1995.5 - 2004

And it costs nearly $1200

Yeah, that's my point. People call them a Hilux even though that's a different truck.

People can't wrap their head around the fact Toyota didn't actually have a "name" for the Pickup.

lol they don't even give it any name in their ad back then, just 'Toyota's 4wd Truck'

Funny how advertising has changed since then, you'd never see that much small text in an ad today unless it was legal jargon at the bottom. Ain't no one got time for that

    I think it's cool though
