Wanting to put 33s on the Tacoma, but I've heard you need to regear with the auto trans. Just wondering what other members on here experience have been with 33s and a manual transmission.

    Will it toast the clutch?
    6th gear unusable?

    Thanks

My conclusion after reading many posts on the subject is that the stock gears and 33’s work just fine with the AT and the MT. I am considering the very same mod.

Stock mt gearing on 285 75 17, which is like 33.9. Drives perfectly fine if you don't mind being slow. 6th gear is perfect for hwy cruising now. 75 mph@ 2.4k rpm I beleive. Its increased my mpg by 1-2. Ovtune helped me with more mid range power with 91. I would suggest not going M/T tires though.

265/70R17 / 265/75R16 Wildpeaks are 32in and the MT has no problem with them. For ATs with 5.29s, the thing is they are just slightly lower geared than stock MTs. So, you should be good to go.

For slow speed 1st and Reverse, I would highly recommend the 2LM:

I recently went to 32's, and have a 6 speed manual. I barely noticed any difference at all in acceleration, power, etc.. My truck is still bone stock, as I am not yet in a financial position to begin upgrading.

My speculation is that 33's alone don't necessitate a regear. It's that often when member here start going with taller tires, they also have or are adding other mods that when combined, will make a regear a very real need. Things that add weight, such as bumpers, wheels, sliders, skid pans, bed racks, .......

I have Dick Cepek Extreme Country M/Ts in 255/85R16, I love the way the truck pulls. Can still chirp the tires going to second. I also tow my pop up camper from Austin to the coast (among other places). 5th gear is just right for speeds between ~60-70. Also have the 2Lo mod and it is definitely worth it for backing the trailer with the manual.

255/85s are easily one of the best mods for a stock suspension, only question is which tire to get.
