My first japanese vehicle with leather, so that explains it. German and american leather is night and day compared to toyota, from what ive seen.

At least now i know ive got a real leather in my truck, haha!

Mine is the other way around. My drivers seat is perfect, passengers looks like shit. Doesnt make any sense. Im like 215, my wife 150 maybe and half of the time its just me in the truck.

It started to look like that only at 3k miles. She uses the asswarmer all the time, i dont. Im sure that makes a difference, but it should not stretch like that just from using heaters and with such low mileage.

Damn. 3K! I have 1K. That is going to be depressing if it starts stretching at such low mileage. My BMW has 70K on it and the seats mostly look like they did when I got it. Ugg

I wonder if the depression in the original post was from a knee on the seat when someone was reaching over the seats for something. I could see a concentrated load stretching the material.

I only have 26k on mine and the 'leather' seats still look like new. I'm not the lightest person in the world either.

Oh man, belive me i was so mad when it started doing that. I really loved how these seats looked when new, just what i wanted.

Funniest thing, when i brought it up, service advisor said its normal and i laughed a bit. Then i had to deal with the service manager and it still not fixed, they tried twice and made it even worse. Its been a year since i brought it up for the first time. You can read my post #22, its pretty long though.

From what i noticed, some trucks seats look like shit right away, and some look like new after couple years. It is very incosistent.

My seat was starting to stretch from carrying wallet in my back pocket, i noticed it right away. Now i remove it everytime and its fine.

    My passenger seat though...

    :annoyed:

I’ll definitely look into those if my seats wear out.
We’re all of the installers good or did you have to do some research to find one?

I had the dealership do it when I purchased the truck. They did a fantastic job.

I just ran onto this thread while killing time. I agree that the vinyl coated leather/synthetic leather/pleather is the norm for most vehicles today. But not all. Of course you expect high end cars to have leather, I mean Rolls/Lambo/etc. not a run of the mill Town Car or Escalade.

Personally I hate leather interiors. More correctly, I hate leather interiors on cars I can afford. The wife's Explorer has the typical clear coated leather, she thinks its the bomb. Me? meh.

But, if I could get the leather interior from a Ford King Ranch, I'd be in. It makes the interior in an S Class Mercedes or 7 Series BMW look like a Dodge minivan interior. That shit's the real deal, high quality leather not coated thin low grade crap. Of course it is insane what a King Ranch sells for, but there is no denying the leather interior is quite exceptional. Back to the real world, I'll take cloth.

All leathers used in auto industry are covered with some type of protective coating. Some use better leather and coating, some use cheap stuff, but they all use it.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

King Ranch was probably the last vehicle with untreated leather up until (I think) 2017. I think they finally gave up on the idea and switched to a good-ole coated leather which can last longer without a hard core maintenance, unlike the untreated version. The old version did look great though when it was new or properly cared for.

Just a thought. I have seen online that people use a heat gun or hair dryer to removed indentations in the leather seat. Has anyone tried this before? Or would I be better off going to a auto upholstery?
