Super prevalent, akin to frame issues.

Update isn’t much. They’re all hesitant to claim it’s covered under warranty, and I understand why.

There’s no hidden story I promise. Regular 5k service and even though I put 45k miles on it in just over two years, it’s mostly highway driving with only 3 days of towing a rented tear drop trailer.

They’re having a regional tech something-or-other come out Friday to look at it after the tear down, so that’ll end a whole week that I haven’t had it. Fingers crossed for it being under warranty, or I may be picking up some side work!

That sucks but if it overheated because the gasket blew it should be under warranty. But overheating an engine can warp a head causing this issue. So if you kept driving while it was overheating I could also see them saying no. Good luck.

Unknown at this point. The distance I drove after the overheat light came on was whatever it takes to slow down from 70mph on a flat freeway.

    Update: barely an update.

Dealership told me they’ve been authorized to perform the engine tear down (Monday 2/17). Took them all week, and they just told me today they found a crack in the block on the back passenger side (idfk what cylinder #that is).

I asked again if it was covered under warranty, but they said they were still waiting on an authorization from Toyota. At 3pm on a Friday, it’s probably not happening until Monday at the earliest.

That will make two weeks since they’ve had it. The 2019 loaner they gave me is nice, glad I never got a sunroof though. I’m only 6’ and I keep hitting my head on the headliner.

fingers, toes, and all my neighbor’s digits crossed it’s covered under warranty

Thanks for the updates... keep em coming if you can. Yeah, that's the reason I didn't get the extra tech package... B/C the sunroof was bundled in and I couldn't fit with that low headliner!

Hope it works out for you. I could understand claim denials if it was a WRX with a thrown rod or something. They get driven hard and are often tuned. These stock Tacomas should not be blowing out head gaskets.
