About 6 months ago I have replaced the OEM front bushings with E/S bushings. Also did a bit of maintenance on the suspension. Soon after that I started to hear a faint squeak noise in the front. Believing is the bushings, knowing they are prone to squeak, I uninstall/install them and added some grease also. The squeak continued, to the point it was very loud, people were looking at me...:luvya:. A very slight movement of the steering wheel was enough to produce the noise. Was planning for this weekend to tear them apart and go back to the OEM or find another solution :notsure:.
When I got home, my neighbor was around and asked him to help me. One would move the wheel and another one listening and trying to find where the noise was coming from. I was very confusing since the noise seamed to come from the engine or around. After many tries, we decided is not the E/S bushings and must be from under the engine. Where from? What is causing metal to bind to metal and squeak loud???:angrygirl:
As a last attempt, we started to move the wheel a lot more to prolong the noise and try to feel the vibration. It turned out it was the uniball in the Camburg UCA
When I installed the E/S bushings, I went to a well known off road company in the East valley and they recommended a dry lube type to prolong the uniball life :jerkoff:, a bit expensive also. When I opened the cap, there was some dust around the uniball but were bone dry.:frusty:. Got a brush, WD-40, compressor and cleaned them very well. after that I put a good layer of gun oil for lubrication. Now, truck is quiet as a mouse.
So, if you have fron end noise, check the UCA and all connections/uniball.
